Oooh this is very nice. I'm not very familiar with texture and patterns...I thought they were something that newbies would first try out versus to the more difficult process of using brushes and C4Ds. But I see what you did here, and it can indeed have a very satisfying effect afterwards.

I'll definitely try this out soon!

Looking around various websites, I would say it's the opposite. Newbies usually use masses of brushes and c4ds, which end up being way overused and just plain messy, but then a lot of the more experienced GFXers use lots of stocks, patterns etc.

Visit sxc.hu for a lot of free stocks. You can find textures, patterns etc. There's anything you can think of on there (not quite).

Hi im new to making sigs etc. and im wondering how to add patterns etc. to my sigs in my copy of adobe photoshop elements 5.0?

download that pack of patterns. Open one of them up in photoshop, press CTRL+A > Edit > define pattern.

There are a lot of different patterns, and some of them fit better differently than others.

To use patterns in the way I've described to add them, just press CTL+A > edit > fill > select pattern > select a pattern, and click OK.

Copy them from their original location and paste them into your document. The paste option is probably under the edit tab.

EDIT: L explained how to add patterns to the program, while I'm explaining how to paste any item quickly into a document. Just so no one gets confused.

If you don't know how to do that, then this tutorial is probably too advanced for you. You should search for beginner's tutorials on DeviantART or google.

And I agree with Eidolon; textures and other stocks can be much more useful than renders and brushes.

That tutorial was really helpful. Thanks for putting it up.

I'm still trying to work Photoshop and I'm trying to get better.

So what is your take on the different versions? Do you think I must use the CS versions, or does that make little difference? (I have only Photoshop 7.0)

Photoshop 7 is fine for sig making. I made most of my earlier ones on 7, and although it is a tad easier on CS2 (thanx to better layout mainly) 7 has everything you should need.
