hey could you tell me how the transparency works cause I've tried saving a pic on a transparent background and in the end it just becomes a white part where it should be transparent

appreciate any help

Save it as a PNG and uncheck the "Keep Background Color" for transparent images.

File > save for web
PNG is good , but sometimes you need animated or small file size.
then you have to save it as gif.

but remember .
all your pixels have to be 100% or zero by opacity , otherwise after saving , 1-99% pixels will shown as a white pixel.
