You see them open their mouths as they talk. In the english versions its only music and text. I was just wondering if this is different in the japanese version of the PS1 game of the FF7 PS1 ending?
No, as you can see by the end of this speedrun of the Japanese PC version. Granted, I suppose it could be different in either the Japanese base PS1 version or the Japanese International PS1 version. But I doubt it. I think the mouth movements were just there because using such story driven CG cutscenes in games was still brand new at that point, and so they were still experimenting. You'll notice that in FFVII or IX, CG scenes are exclusively used for spectacle, and are always designed in a way that no character even needs to talk; that way they don't have to animate for subtitles or use voice acting.
