FFVII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III to hit store shelves within "the next three years or so"

Which of these events will likely occur before we even see these two games?

In this edition of Square Enix non-news, the company is currently forecasting for their next two upcoming Japanese RPG blockbuster single player titles to launch somewhere "in the next three years or so". This was stated by CEO Yosuke Matsuda himself during an outline of the company's fiscal year 2017 performance (which has recently ended on the 31st March this year).

“This slide shows our release lineup for FY2017/3 as well as for FY2018/3 and beyond. We plan to launch each of these upcoming titles in the next three years or so.” This would mean that both Final Fantasy VII Remake (presumably the first part of the remake given that it will not be released as a single package?) and Kingdom Hearts III will hopefully both be on store and digital shelves by 2020. [EDIT: It doesn't mean both games and the new Marvel game WILL be released in 2020. It just means based on the above slide that the games will be out any time between 2018 and 2020.]

As context, recall that Kingdom Hearts III was announced for PS4 and Xbox One back in E3 2013, before the current generation consoles launched. Two years later, Square Enix left investors squealing with delight when they did the seemingly unthinkable and announced an actual FFVII remake in the works. In the two years since, we know very little about the game, with updates seldom and intermittent. The biggest revelation since is that the game will be said to be "episodic".

Where is the "all the above" choice???? Really it's sad they can't say if it will be next year or not...

Would you really rather them give a general date so early and then have to push it back? I wouldn't. 'Next three years' could mean as soon the end of this year... it won't, but it could. It doesn't have to mean it'll be in the latter part of those three years.

With trump in power it HAS to be the nuclear apoc. fo sho.

Speaking of Fallout 4 though; it has a free weekend on Steam! And Xbox if im not mistaken.

Square are so slow nowadays. It's not like it's to add quality to their games, 'cause they used to make better games that weren't lacking half the cutscenes :hmmm:. Just...stop making so much and focus on one or two things at a time. Thank you for listening, Square :monocle:.

They need to stop announcing new games when they're nowhere close to completion. It may thrill investors and fans while providing a temporary uptick in stock prices, but there is absolutely no advantage beyond that in announcing a game that is years away from actual completion. Honestly, who else but Square Enix does this? At the very most, if they are to announce a new major title, it should ideally be up to two years away from hitting shelves, in my opinion. That's reasonable enough time to drum up some kind of hype cycle without it seeming absolutely comical in how long the development time seems.

Exactly. Giving a game release announcement so far away also makes people that much more disappointed when they keep being told it's nowhere near completion. Not to mention a lot of people will just lose interest by the time it actually is released :/. To me, it's anti-hype :lew:.

I'd like to announce the upcoming release of the worlds first fully virtual world, Freaking Awesome Planet. An entire world that answers to your very whim. Pre-orders will be available shortly.

*Game not expected to begin production until late 2047.

Well according to this article Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III will be released by 2020. Final Fantasy XV took Square Enix almost 10 years to release the game. It will take some time to release the Final Fantasy VII remake do to the multiple game projects Square Enix is doing right now. This is my point of view about this article. We have yet to see the materia system, how will it work with the new battle system, etc. It is too early to speculate its release date do to the little information they have release so far about the remake.
