With FFXIV's upcoming expansion signalling the death knell for PlayStation 3 support of the game, Square Enix are fervently encouraging the migration of the few existing PS3 players left (*cough* me) to the PS4 version. At Fanfest, it was announced that there will be a return of the PS4 Upgrade campaign, which will last for over a year, from 17 October today all the way to the very final moment of 2017. So what exactly does this campaign entail?

  • From today until the 31st of December 2017, players with the PS3 version of the game will have the option to upgrade to the PS4 version free of charge. There is no need to purchase a PS4 copy of ARR and once the transfer process is complete, you will no longer be able to play the game on the PlayStation 3.
  • Neither does it mean you have to purchase yet another copy of Heavensward if the expansion has already been registered to the service account.
  • In addition, players with expired subscriptions at the time of doing so will have fourteen days of free play starting from the day of the upgrade. There is no additional free month's worth of game time on top of that for a successful transfer.

Configuration settings such as hotbar, keybinds and macro setups can be transferred over to the PS4, details of which are to be found here.
