So I posted here originally out of shock of the FF7 remake, and since then have realized this is a nice community so I figured why not share one of my passions here with you guys. It is called "Tricking" a mix of Martial Arts, Gymnastics, and Breakdancing. A lot of the moves have been used in video games/movies everywhere. Anyway, thank you for looking. There appears to be a bunch of talented people on this forum, feel free to talk about or post videos of your own hobbies as well.

Dude, that's pretty rad! You could be a Power Ranger. And I'm being legit; you could, and it would be awesome!

As far as my own hobbies go, I've shared them quite a bit already, and don't really wanna start looking like a crazed lunatic waving his arms about, looking for attention, lol. The only one I haven't shared is my music. But that's because I don't have any that I've recorded since like 2008.

Thanks bud, I'm a musician myself. Play guitar and keyboards. I actually covered a ton of FF7 soundtrack and play it from time to time. I play in a band that plays shows around NYC currently at bars and what not. Would be funny if one day I started to break out into a "still more fighting" solo. Count how long before all the women lose all interest. HA. But hey it's about what I like, what is popular and trendy always takes the back seat on my mind. Thanks for the kind words before though.

That's pretty cool. I live in a really out-of-the-way area where not a ton of people are. So finding a band is literally impossible. Because of that, I've learned to play tons of instruments, from violin and piano, to guitar (my first instrument), bass, drums, and vocals. Mostly play metal or acoustic stuff with some orchestral flair done partially through virtual instruments. I've never really been into covering music from games myself, though I adore hearing it. Different interpretations of songs I love always excite me.

So you like video game music? Well I guess I can share something. When I was a kid, I always used to play this really obscure game called "pyrotechnica". Music was absolutely phenomenal. Check out the OST. This is just the intro and score screen. It has some really interesting harmonic scales and chords that are so beautifully arranged. I've always been a sucker for dark eerie and mystic music. Techno/Atmospheric/Space..either way. Sick in my book.

Yeah, I love video game music. It's not really a surprise, but I tend to gravitate most to music from RPGs, since you're often hearing these songs for quite a while over the 40+ hours you're playing. Regardless, that intro theme reminds me of some game I played all the time on the Genesis, but I can't recall what it is. Uses a lot of the same virtual instruments.

Continuing with that theme I suppose, I figure I might as well share a song from two games that are rather obscure for said Genesis. Played these games all the time as a kid.

I love how bright and cheerful your links sound compared to the dark/evil sounding link I posted. Haha. I have to admit. I never heard of any of those games. I do however like the second link song you posted. Genesis always had that "grungy twangy" sound to it. Can't mistake it from anything else. I'm actually just finishing the first Lunar for my Sega CD at the moment. Total nostalgic overload.

I think that's why the Genesis has some absolutely fantastic music on it, is because the palette of sounds was so harsh that the composers really had to try extremely hard to get something to sound listenable (I've messed around with some Genesis trackers, and it's definitely not easy, lol). It brought out the best of the the best, and didn't mask the deficiencies in the less skilled composers. It's my personal favorite for that reason, though I know it's not the best.

Never played a Lunar game, because dang they're expensive.

My big hobby is foreign languages. I spend anywhere from 2-4 hrs per day practicing. I read German fluently and speak basic conversation fluently (nothing technical). I read Latin fluently and am teaching myself to speak it conversationally; I have one Latin translation that was recently published in a major periodical and have been asked to do a second. Currently I am also working on Mandarin, Russian, and the basics of Swiss German. I know a lot of Spanish from high school but have mostly let it languish. I know bits and pieces of Dutch, French, Modern and Biblical Hebrew, Modern and Biblical Greek, Korean, and Japanese. I plan to expand on those languages later, and to add to them Italian, Arabic, Cantonese, Icelandic, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and Portuguese. I also want to learn the Pfälzisch and Bairisch dialects of German in addition to the standard Hochdeutsch. I want to get into an Applied Linguistics program in the near future and synthesize the theory and methods from that field with those of Applied Behavior Analysis.

Wow that's really great man...I once was studying Dutch for a long time..I met this really cool girl who spoke fluent Dutch while I was traveling in Amsterdam. She taught me the entire language. To this day I can remember the phrases, words, and sentence structure. Unfortunately she had emotional problems that I couldn't deal with and had to end it. But it is funny how life works. There is always a piece of knowledge that can be learned from the most negative situation. Every time I see a Dutch word I remember her voice, too bad..was really pretty too. Can't have it all I guess.

I can relate. I fancy myself a Renaissance man, a polymath who dabbles in a little of every subject. So often I find myself wanting to get more into music... but it brings up too many memories. Because, when I was in undergrad, I met this absolutely spectacular girl who was studying piano with one of the greats. She was poised, confident, mature, intelligent, and majorly into the Romantics, especially Rachmaninov. Looking back, I can safely say she was the only flame that never quite guttered. And she liked me back. Only thing was, she was part of a Pentecostal cult that took faith healing so radically she rejected any medical treatment, right down to toothpaste. And I, being young and stupid, tried to change her mind, not for any selfish reasons but because I loved her. So she did what all cults do; cut me out. And now whenever I take up the thought of wanting to learn to play, the only instrument I care to learn is also the only one I can't.

You know, stories like you and I shared right there are really interesting because in both cases there were so many other redeeming qualities that were just completely voided by one major one. It always appears to be the case, even in a complete dichotomy where you end up finding someone who doesn't have a major problem, but then unfortunately lacks all the less important qualities that you found amazing. In my situation, the girl was adventurous, positive, happy, always wanting to try something new, didn't complain. But then later on had a mood swing disorder that made being in a long term relationship impossible. The next girl I dated was completely down to earth and calm, but did absolutely nothing. Didn't work, didn't try to better herself. Absolutely nothing. I think this is why Star Trek invented the holodeck, and so many dudes obsess over video game females. I know for women, guys are just as bad half the time. It's rough out there ha.

I'm into functional programming and scripting languages on the side. (Python and Ruby mostly) I'm trying to optimize our algorithms for greater gains in our API calls. Also I'm trying to come up with a standardized model for developers to follow on small teams for paired programming practices. I work in the tech field where literally we have two week deliveries. We use Test Driven Development which helps us map out our components and also validate if they work. This also instills client confidence on Product Delivery. I'm also looking into new Behavior Driven Design methodologies in which is no longer so Analyst driven, but more Project Management driven.

The other thing I'm into is Running. Each year I average between 2-3 events, even if it's not much it still gets the blood pumping. I started in 2009:

2009: Memphis Half Marathon - 2:09:43 https://www.stjude.org/content/dam/.../2009/half-marathon-results-by-place-2009.txt
2010: Memphis Marathon - 5:06:01 (was not prepped and legs sustained lactic acid build up at mile 17) https://www.stjude.org/content/dam/...ekend/results/2010/marathon-by-place-2010.txt
2014: Nashville Half Marathon - 1:41:21 http://running.competitor.com/rnrre...&gender=&city=&state=&seId=&division=&submit=
2014: Hendersonville Classic 10k - 00:39:36 https://results.chronotrack.com/event/results/event/event-7469?lc=en
2014: Memphis Half Marathon - 1:45:27 (not recorded as normal due to I ran a half registered as a whole)
2015: Oxford, MS Double Decker 10k - 00:48:48 http://racesonline.com/events/doubl...&search_term_display=tyler+wood&commit=Search
2016: Augusta State Half Marathon - 2:25:37 (went out and paced a friend) http://www.orionsportstiming.com/results/AugustaUniversityHALFOverall2016.html
2016: Oxford, MS Double Decker 10k - 00:49:07 http://racesonline.com/events/doubl...&search_term_display=tyler+wood&commit=Search

Good for you keeping in shape. Very impressive list as well. I try to do a good amount of running too. It really clears the mind slow jogging at 1am in the morning. As I get older (mid-20s), it is getting easier and easier for me to go to the bar with my friends every day after work and talk about girls and glory than work out like I used to. I tell you what though, my friend hired a personal trainer who literally is a perfect 10/10 blonde that basically gets paid for having fat out of shape dudes run after her at a park making them try to keep up. My friend is one of her clients and I think he is losing weight off of fear of embarrassing himself alone. Hilarious.
