Subbed to this thread. I'm suuuper busy right now trying to finish some things up before the end of the month, so I probably won't be able to read/comment right away, but you've got my attention (y)

Primary Chapter 1-1 Characters
  • Shael: Young, newly appointed Maester of Spira. Co-represents the Humans, and oversees Spira's overall finance and commerce.

Chapter 1-1

Following a knock on the office door, Shael's assistant Tyren enters with a stack of papers in his hands. "Good morning, Maester," he says. After setting the papers on Shael's desk, he asks breathlessly, "How is the new office, sir?"

Shael lets out a soft chuckle. "Did you sprint up here, Tyren?" he teased, grabbing for the first piece of paper on the stack. "You can relax." He takes a moment to read the paper's contents. "This stadium expansion is a tax hike waiting to happen." A sigh escapes him as he signs the document. "How's the wife, Tyren?"

Tyren clears his throat. "Arina is great, sir," he said. "We're excited to get away for a few weeks. We've been wanting to get back to the Island for a while."

Shael looks at his watch. "Wanna head out now?" he asked. "It's almost the weekend anyway, and I don't wanna be hanging around much longer myself." The young maester sighs as he sits in his chair. "But I have to go through all of this before then." A soft chuckle escapes him.

Tyren stammers a bit as he responds. "Uh, I'm more than willing to help you with this stack, sir. Arina will be at the shop for much of the day anyway." He grabs for the next sheet atop of the pile, which highlights the upcoming Blitzball tournament in Luca. "Besides, I'm eager to go over what they have planned for the tournament this year. It takes up a lot of this stack."

Shael gestures a quick thumbs up. "Good," he says. "At least I won't be bored too much. I hear we're adding a few new teams this year." He leans forward, grabbing for the next sheet in the stack, which highlights new concessions and attractions at the tournament. "What? Oh ho, that's genius," he comments on one of the new additions.

A few hours later, Shael is walking through the streets of Bevelle, with an armed escort, greeting and introducing himself to the citizens of the city. From children, to mobs of teenage girls, and even the elderly, he is generally well liked. Following the tour, the young maester decides to surpise the city's governor with an unannounced visit.

"You can wait out here," Shael orders his escort, just before entering the governor's office. "I doubt there are assassins or anything in there."

The escort nods and stands by the door, hands behind their back. "Sir."

Shael opens the door to the governor's office, and says, "Good afternoon, Governor."

The governor looks up from his desk. "Shael!" he greets ecstatically, standing from his chair. "What the hell brings you to this side of the city, man?"

Shael approaches the governor, firmly shaking hands with the man from across the desk. "Ah, I was just greeting some of the people," he responded before sitting. "Need to get people familiar with my face now. That is, according to the Council, and the 'big lady' herself." He clears his throat before continuing. "I just wanted to pop by quick before heading back to a mound of paper. Had to check up on you, Pietro."

Governor Pietro laughs. "Oh, just staying busy with improvements on the slums, cousin," he responded, now sitting and reclining in his chair. "Speaking of which, could I bend your ear regarding a proposal for this? It'll save me some time since you're here. I hate scheduling meetings there."

Shael nods. "Sure. Let's hear it," he says.

Sorry, I've been pretty busy the last few days. Haven't had a chance to write out 1-2, but I do today.

Hoping to have it up tonight, at the earliest.

Haha. It's been over two months, but there will be something coming by the end of today. I'm actually in the process of writing it up now.

Hint hint: this next part revolves around a sphere hunting group.

Primary Chapter 1-2 Characters
  • Sarah: Leader of Armis, a sphere hunting group out of Luca.
  • Cimelle: An Al Bhed, veteran Armis sphere hunter, and head pilot of Armis' airship: the Poinsettia.

Chapter 1-2

"Milo," Cimelle calls out to the airship's artificial intelligence. "Show me the last known coordinates of the Ulicon sphere."

A holographic map of Spira appears at the center of the ship's bridge, with a glowing orange dot flashing in the sphere's last known location. The ship's AI replies, "Based upon residual sphere waves, the last know location of the Ulicon sphere was within the Kilika sea ruins. Due to recent weather patterns, the sphere may have been swept east to a series of unnamed islands by this time." The orange dot moves along the estimated path the sphere may have taken. "According to last known data, inhabitants of these islands mysteriously vanished 97 years ago."

"Any worrisome fauna or fiends making these islands home?" Cimelle asks, also studying the area herself at her station.

After some seconds of quiet beeping, Milo responds, "The common Sahuagin poses a 2 on the threat scale throughout these islands, according to last known data from 20 years ago."

The main bridge door opens, and the leader Sarah walks onto the bridge. "I remember reading these islands were part of important trading routes during the Second Great War," she added, taking a seat at her large station. "I'm willin' to bet some gil we'll find other goodies there, too." She looks to the large case of spheres near Cimelle's station. "Here's hoping."

Cimelle types at her station with some vigor. "The airspace is being monitored by Bevelle," she informs. "Looks like the 11th Aerial. Our stealth is still under repair, so flying in isn't gonna happen."
