FFXIV - Heavensward Benchmark

Yeah, the character creation screen still isn't converting me to go Au Ra for the expansion. I was quickly fiddling with it on a Windows laptop (slow bugger, as expected) and I don't really care too much for the cutesy, slender, petite and delicate look they've overwhelmingly created for the female Au Ra. I tried to make some kind of succubus-like Au Ra Xaela, to little satisfactory avail. They supposedly can't be any taller than me in real life and for some reason, face options are tied to horn options...

Male options are better, if only because you can create something much more inhuman with a male Xaela than you can with a female. They have the benefit of having the more outlandish and anime hair options.

But overall, yeah, I'm not sold on the Au Ra. The decision to have such staggering physical differences between the sexes is just odd - it doesn't strike me as a very cohesively created race. They clearly designed one half of this race for a certain demographic in mind, particularly the people who want more super kawaii cute character avatars. These could have been more interesting, more bestial-looking humanoids with greater physical parity between the males and females, but instead we have awkward looking humans with horns and occasional patches of scales that look more akin to a bad skin disease.

Here was something hilarious from the benchmark character creator though. What happens when you squeeze a male Roegadyn into AF2 Dragoon gear (not my picture)?:

@.Fleur Don't know if the male options are all that much better :) Male options are more less human looking for sure, but I call this eyecandy. :) If I am going to switch this is what I would switch to, but I would have to change my name as Emerson really isn't a girl's name. I'll have to think about this though.

The game looks good...really good.

Oooo I love benchmarks! Good timing for this one, too, since I've been eager to see how FFXIV runs on my new laptop (Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi). Here we go!

Overall I'm happy with my laptop's performance. Obviously desktop PC is the way to go, but hey, my last laptop couldn't even run FFXIV on the lowest possible settings, so I'm happy with this upgrade. Technically my 'laptop' is actually a Windows tablet with a keyboard dock, so it's pretty awesome to see FFXIV running on a tablet at all, nevermind at a playable framerate!
