[21/12] FFXIV's Gold Saucer Revealed: Will be Live After Patch 2.51

Fans of FFXIV, rejoice. Fans of FFVII's Gold Saucer, rejoice. Fans of the Manderville characters, rejoice.

From the Letter from the Producer Live event (a regular live broadcast that veterans of the game should be all too familiar with) from the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Tokyo, the promised Gold Saucer finally reared its head and revealed itself. It calls itself the Manderville Gold Saucer, which was presumably founded by the strongest Primal in the game: Godbert Manderville. Yes, the place is begging for your characters to Manderville dance their way in.

So what will this glorious, comical paradise offer for players tired from all the slaying, raiding, grinding, FATEsing and crafting? For a start, there are various mini-games such as Super Dunk, a game whereby you have to punch Greg- uhh, Gilgamesh, among others. The Manderville Gold Saucer will also serve as a hub for Chocobo Racing and Triple Triad(!).

To participate in Chocobo racing, your Chocobo shall be granted a separate "racing level" with stats such as stamina paramount to racing performance. Watch what you feed the bird!

For Triple Triad, you can challenge both NPCs and other players. You acquire cards by spending Gold Saucer's currency, which you can earn from beating certain NPCs or by obtaining them in battle events such as dungeons and trials. When Gold Saucer launches, Triple Triad will begin with 80 cards available at launch. Oh yes, FFXIV will go with new rules for Triple Triad, but they're still working on it.

"Gold Saucer Active Events" are said to exist, which going by naming, presumably seem not too dissimilar to FATEs.

Worried about the cash shop? You needn't be. Naoki Yoshida made it clear that no one should need to go near the cash shop to fully enjoy the content.

The music is a remix by composer/sound director Masayoshi Soken of Nobuo Uematsu's original Final Fantasy VII Gold Saucer theme.

When will Gold Saucer come live? It will be in Patch 2.51, which will follow Patch 2.5: Before the Fall. For fans interested in Patch 2.5, Before the Fall may expound on the deep societal tensions in Ul'dah that will finally boil over, if the tilting goblet in the logo is to suggest anything. The Crystal Tower raid story will end with a conclusive dungeon, the World of Darkness. Hard modes for The Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep will be present, as is a new dungeon known as the Keeper of the Lake, aka the inside of the fallen airship Agrius itself in Mor Dhona.

That would totally be worth it! :x3:

I think its a very smart move honestly. The Gold Saucer was such a neat place in FFVII... and from the sound of it, it'll only get better in FFXIV :gasp:

Games are exactly why we play... but we need breaks every now and then... to play a mini-game :wacky:

oooh, and I wonder if they're have the boxing match, too. that would be awesome if they did, and we were able to go up against people across the world :ohoho:

Cash shop was my only major concern. They've sort of alleviated most of my fears for now, but I'm not ruling out the possibility that they sneak a few onto it later on down the road when the Gold Saucer builds up enough content. Hmm, we'll see.

God, I need this. This would be so nice to have right now, because at the moment, I've reached the end of my tether. I'm two weeks from the end of my subscription, and it's reached the point where I've no will to do anything substantive anymore. The existing endgame content just don't enthuse me apart from the Manderville subquests (and that has taken me to a brick wall, because I'm nowhere near item level 80 to take on Ultros in a raid fight) and for someone who is about to take an extended break from the game soon, it would have been nice to have had an amazing distraction like Gold Saucer to pass the time.

But like most things from Square-Enix, Gold Saucer should have been released a short while ago. Haven't they teased this for about a year? What took so long?
