The internet got its panties in a twist and was all up in arms when he was revealed as having the part of Batman in the upcoming crossover film with Superman. I admit when i first heard it aswell my thoughts were pretty negative. Overall i think hes a pretty average actor although hes always in below average films which isnt his fault. But the more negative press i read the more it made me think.

Sorry to fans but you dont need to be a good actor to play Batman. Not at all. The acting itself comes from playing Bruce Wayne and even that itself is an act that he plays to try and hide his real identity.
No one expected Heath Ledger to play a good Joker and no one thought Michael Keaton would be a good Batman. Before that he mostly starred in comedy films. We know its a film with Superman so likely theyl be fighting eachother before teaming up to fight the common enemy so most of his role is going to be as Batman and like i said you really dont need to act to play Batman. Sure people have played the part of a great Bruce Wayne but no one cares about him. Its only when he wears the suit that it matters to the audience.

I still think its a pretty bizarre choice but it bugged me a little to see how crazy people were getting over it and they dont really have any right to do that right now. Im not gunna pay any attention to the press or reviews im just gunna see the film and have an unbiased opinion. I just hope its better than Man Of Steel. I didnt love that.

I honestly never got the hype about this topic. I mean I love superhero movies to death but it's not like Affleck would be playing the lead anyways. If he were that would be a different story. I'm personally not a fan of his but I quite like the idea of mixing up the actors a bit. I never thought Anne Hathaway would ever convince me as Cat woman, and of course there's Ledger's Joker from the last batman trilogy. At this point I really don't want to judge until I see it up on screen, and even then if he's bad, he's not the lead of the movie so it really wouldn't matter. :hmmm: It's not like one minor role is going to kill an entire movie, besides, Affleck couldn't possibly be as terrible as Clooney's Batman movie.

Anne Hathaway as catwoman pissed me off at the time, but after seeing the actual movie she actually did great. Now I dont like Ben Affleck at all, give me Matt Damon instead. We dont have a say in the matter anyway, but a bad casting (example avatar last airbender and dbz evolution) can break the movie.

Batman vs Superman? Or co opping? The animated movies of batman and superman (public enemies for example) are ace. They better do the comics and animations some justice.

I think they'll be on the same side, at least at the end. I wouldn't like Matt Damon as Batman, he's a decent enough actor, but I don't think he really has the charisma to pull it off, but you could say that about Ben Affleck too. Also I can't think about Matt Damon without thinking of Team America.
Part of people's problem with Affleck has to do with Daredevil, which was quite poor. I saw at the time and not since, so I might think differently about it now, but I can't think of any reason to rewatch it.
I think a lot of it will come down to how Batman is characterised. The Nolan/Bale Batman movies were based upon Frank Miller's, which was much grittier and darker, and I think has revolutionised superhero movies. The first two Raimi Spiderman movies, were at that point in time, probably the best superhero movies, but they've been totally eclipsed by Nolan's Batman. I don't think it's possible to top the Nolan Batmans, so I suspect they'll go back to a lighter version, which will suffer in comparison to Nolan.

As for the other Batmans, I think Keaton is the best, but he's a solid B-, good, but not spectacular. Actually, I don't think Keaton or Adam West can be used as benchmarks for comparison. The Keaton Batmans are more Tim Burton movies than Batman movies. Adam West's Batman is so different and from so long ago that it's unfair to compare them. West is camper than Graham Norton, and it had Wallop! and Kapow! on the screen when West punched (kind of) baddies.
Clooney and Kilmer are both terrible, although that's par for the course for Kilmer, I'm probably being a bit unfair. I don't think it's either of their faults, as they were directed by Joel Schumacher. Clooney also had Arnie being shit as Mr Freeze to put up with as well.

I don't think Affleck is a good bit of casting, but I also don't think it matters. When Warners decide to make the next Batman movie, they will have this one acting as a buffer between it and the Nolan trilogy.

i'm quite excited about ben affleck as batman. there was always going to be this problem with it being so soon after the dark knight trilogy. no one was going to be happy with whoever they cast. i think affleck is a solid actor, whose cv is only getting better and better. daredevil was a poor film, but affleck wasn't neccessarily poor in it, it was mostly down to a bad script and not brilliant directing.

i think they'll be using an already established batman, so no origin story except with maybe a bit of flashback, who is coming to the end of his career. everyone is expecting a batman v superman film, but that has never actually been officially confirmed by warner bros. or dc.

i got even more excited for it recently when i saw that larry fong will be shooting the film. he's zack snyder's regular dop, he did 300, watchmen and sucker punch with him, and did super 8 a couple of years ago with j.j. abrams. he's one of my favourite cinematographers, so the film seems to be getting even better already.

I think much of the brouhaha about the Affleck affair is probably from the US... Here where I am, no one seems to have any major issues with who becomes Batman. It's a good thing, I think, and I'd much rather pass judgement after having watched the movie. Admittedly though, it's rather entertaining to see all the hate online. :P

same lew. i thought it was crazy how angry people were getting about it. i admit, im a big ben affleck fan, i think he's a great actor--but people assume they know he'll be bad when really i bet he'll be just as good as the others.

wow, this is honestly the first time i've seen someone say that. i don't follow the comics but ive seen all the films at least once or twice but i thought he was a good pick as well. like you said, ben has been pumping out some great productions and his acting is great. i personally cannot wait to see him as batman.

it's about time batman got his "chin" back :lew:

I couldn't stand Christian Bale so I'm more than happy to see the role of Batman passed on to someone else! Who knows, maybe Ben will surprise us all.

so wonder woman has been confirmed for the film, and now there are rumours that jason momoa (khal drogo in game of thrones) may be up for the role of martian manhunter:

strong links to a justice league film coming up now, but i think establishing three new heroes in one film like that will be a big mistake. it was obviously hard enough to have several villains in spiderman 3, and protagonists need much more work. it'll be interesting to see if they incorporate the green arrow from the tv series, as they've just introduced the flash

Affleck as Batman is a tough one. I think Bale is currently the best Batman, and it'll be difficult to snatch that title away.

I remember when Affleck did Daredevil. It's a terrible movie, and even he regrets doing it. :lew: I guess we should look at the fact that Batman is a completely different superhero, but I don't blame anyone for being a skeptic.

and zack snyder has revealed what ben affleck as batman will look like, along with the batmobile:

i'm almost entirely sold on that. it's a very dark sort of look, and the batmobile looks like a combination of the tumbler and classic batmobiles. i would like to see it without the monochrome filter, however, so that i can see what it will look like on screen. but so far so good.

TBH, I'm convinced we're looking at a Dark Knight Returns version of Batman here.

I mean:

The suit looks the most like this one- without colour due to the monochrome, you can see the resemblance with the shorter ear and the larger bat symbol, with the fact that the two photos arguably have similar physicality- along with the fact that Ben Affleck is the oldest to play batman yet hints to some sort of adaption of it.

For those who don't know, The Dark Knight Returns is a comic series by Frank Miller.

DKR shows an alternate future where Bruce Wayne has retired. Shit abounds and he comes back later on as an older version of Batman(obviously). This comic also features Superman, so I'd put money on it that it has an influence on it.

Though, DKR generally has had an influence on most Batman films anyway.

There be my thoughts on the suit...

it's a ridiculous looking suit. they should have stuck with what affleck originally suggested. the suit just looks like a giant fat guy in some plastic armor. yeah, it looks closest to the original, but it also looks ridiculous.

this one is much better and more serious-looking

Also, anyone else notice the Joker-face blowing smoke up Batman's arse?

I like the suit aswell. Its quite dark and edgy. Dark knight returns is exactly what it reminds me of aswell and thats definitely a good thing.

I actually think the suit looks amazing actually. :hmmm:

Also since I never commented on this before, I think that Ben Affleck will be a better Batman than Christian Bale. He will (hopefully) at least be able to talk better as batman than Christian Bale in the second and third movies, he did ok for the first one though.
