In order to provide more clarity for the members and staff members, we have revised the shoutbox rules and added a new policy.

A quick overview:

Site Rules still apply. Do not troll or flame members. This also means that you must not provoke anyone into an argument. If you are caught doing so or have been reported, staff may hand out a warning or infraction -- depends on who’s handling the report.

It’s very simple: do not give others a reason to report you. Keep the shoutbox clean and appropriate. If there’s enough complaints from members, you may be subject to a shoutbox ban.

As for the new policy (effective 5/20/2013): if the infraction that a member received is shoutbox-related (e.g. trolling or flaming in the SB), and the member is suspended because of it, a shoutbox ban will now ensue after the suspension is lifted. The duration of the SB ban depends on how long you were suspended for.

An example:

One week suspension = one week shoutbox ban, immediate after the member’s suspension is lifted.

So if you were suspended for six months, this would mean that you will now also have to deal with a shoutbox ban for six months, which will begin after your suspension’s end date. No exceptions.

This is actually nothing new, since we have applied SB bans right after a suspension ends. However, staff tends to forget about SB banning, thus the new SB ban requirement after the suspension ends.

In addition, for every trolling infraction in the SB that doesn’t suspend the member right away, members will now also be banned from the SB for 24 hours.

As of 4/13/2013: Please do not use big text in the SB. There is no need for this as it disrupts or any conversation held by others. If caught, staff will ask you not to do it. Failure to comply will result in a warning and/or infraction.

Reporting SB Shouts:

When reporting a member, please use the report shout feature and send a PM to a staff member right away, preferably one who’s currently active at the time of report.

SB Warnings:

Staff may give a general warning to members if the situation is getting out of hand. At times they may even send a PM warning. Once you’ve been given a warning (directly or a general warning to multiple members), an infraction may follow if offense is repeated. Once you've been warned once or twice in the past, staff will start handing out infractions.

Silence:

The silence feature is generally used by staff members in order to help maintain stability in the shoutbox. This is a quick temporary solution that may be used, especially if the shoutbox is busy and a staff member’s trying to defuse an argument between two or more members.

Silence can last for a few hours up to a few days. When members are silenced, they can still use the shoutbox, but others will not see their shouts.

This also apply to the staff on the forums. If you think that some members of staff have crossed the line and are being rude / unprofessional, please do not argue back and make the situation worse. Instead, report it to the administrators (all complaints will remain anonymous) with proof to back up your case. We will handle it from there.

Thank you all.
