FFXIV General Discussion

Make sure you attune yourself to those crystals when you get there so you can just teleport between them easily. Also make sure you visit the Gladiator's Guild and become one. Gladiators have 2 skills that you need for tanking. Provoke and Flash. Once you get them just add them to your Marauder.

Fates are a good way of getting experience too as long as you're not alone.

I haven't visited any other city states yet. But I'm just about to hop onto an airship for a quest in the other two cities. I have feeling that it will only be a one-off trip for now, but the world will eventually open up for me.

The ambassador quest, right? I've done that earlier, and I can assure you that you will be able to get on airships after you're done. Plus a wind-up airship minion, but if my coeurl kitten is of indication, they just seem to be cosmetic. =)

Dunno about dungeons though. The little bit of time I am on FFXIV, I'm chiefly doing Levequests and levelling up my armory and botany classes. I've yet to think about dungeons, and I simply imagine them as being for high-level players with high-level equipment. :hmmm:

Also, for veteran players, I understand that eventually I will be able to join one of three Grand Companies. Perchance do certain classes suit a certain Grand Company better in some tangible way in terms of one's class, or does it ultimately not matter which one I join?

I'd advise powering through the main story and unlocking dungeons seeing as they seem to be the best way to power level and get equipment for low level players. I'm a level 50 paladin but I'm i45 or something so that obviously needs improving.

I have heard that they do but I can't verify it at the moment. Basically Twin Adder is for mages, Malestrom is for physical DPS and Immortal Flames for Tanks. However joining it does give you access to your first mount so I think it is worth it overall. As Tom said dungeons are pretty much the best option for grinding. It is also the best place to get good gear for that point.

Okay, I've ploughed through my first dungeon in the game, which is the cave one in Western La Noscea.

There's something unfortunate about this Duty Finder system; it can take an excruciatingly long time to be assigned to a party (with 2 DPSs, a healer and a tank). I think this has to be because, DPS classes in La Noscea are incredibly common compared to how many marauders and conjurors are running around waiting for entry. I imagine as a healer it might take around a couple of minutes to find a party, but not as an arcanist or thaumaturge.

Still, I got in, and I quite enjoyed the slog, despite it being overwhelmingly full of repetitive combat. Our conjuror was apparently easily distracted by the football, and we died at the boss because of him/her. Our marauder was great, and he provided the necessary guidance and leadership all the way through, even if half the time he was instructing to us the bleeding obvious (fight the guy there who is CLEARLY ATTACKING us!).

Wish I can praise the quality of the loot though. -__-

The wait times can indeed suck for DPS classes due to the overpopulation of DPS classes. On the other hand, as you said, Healers and Tanks have very little wait times. Once the new Rogue/Ninja class comes out DPS wait times will be even worse. How overleveledwere you? The loot is usually good if you're at the right level for that dungeon.

The advantage of walking around the market area with crafting level 50 gears on... people will pay you to meld materia for them. I just received a request... 37k to meld one materia on a level 50+ item. I didn't wanna take advantage and said I'll take 5k instead. :ryan:

Olivia, the dungeon mechanics will get a lot more interesting as you progress through the story. =P

I've just done my first dungeon too. The same one Liv did last night. The loot didn't apply to me at all. I just clicked 'pass' for everything.

It's also quite frustrating that the manual help guides pop up at the most awkward of times... A four page help display seems to pop up whenever I enter something such as dungeons, levemetes, etc, with other people... So everyone else is running off, and I'm stuck there deciding whether I should risk waiting and reading to know what the hell to do, or to just close the window and run off and hope for the best. These help screens should come up while we wait to join a party instead! :argor:

The dungeon itself was not bad, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. In fact I got three commendations for it. But we worked quite well as a party. I got a stack of experience for it too, which is the main thing for me. I'm level 21 now. I did not think that I'd get there within a week... This is a lot easier than FFXI was. And it is more enjoyable for me as a result.

Greeding loot allows you to turn it in at a later point (depending on your level right now) at your Grand Company. =]

if u catch me online i can give u GLA/MAR loot i greeded and never used Dionysos

Free login campaign: Friday, August 22 at 12:00 a.m. ─ Monday, September 1 at 12:00 a.m. (GMT)

So I'm not renewing until I take advantage of this then.

Also, read the Letter From the Producer Live a bit. In regards to Gold Saucer:

Komoto: When you hear “Gold Saucer” I'm sure all of you immediately think of FFVII's Gold Saucer, and I think the most memorable feature of the Gold Saucerwas the chocobo racing. FFXI also has chocobo racing, but in FFVII you were able to ride your chocobo and control it during the race, so we're heading in the direction where you would be able to race the chocobo you've been training, and at the moment we're planning on a race between eight in a field.

Yoshida: Sorry to keep you all waiting, but we are currently in the process of developing chocobo racing. Naturally that's not all we will be implementing. As Komoto mentioned previously, in-game systems can be split into two different categories. The first includes battles and monsters. This is what Gondai focuses on, which would be dungeons, raids, Frontline, the Hunt, and all the other battle systems. The other category is composed of crafting, gathering, housing, Gold Saucer, and other such systems, which are handled by Komoto. So although that falls into Komoto's category, he is not directly in charge of it. We've been talking to the planning team about chocobo racing and how we'd like to make it so you can use the chocobo you've trained and actually control it while racing. Additionally, we have one more plan in the works.

Komoto: I personally really loved FFVIII's Triple Triad card game and I played it a lot. We're planning to make it so it's not simply a card game, but also gives you the option to battle NPCs like Minfillia to collect cards. So we're looking into a game card based on this idea.

Yoshida: We're envisioning it as a game where you can collect cards, battle others, and hold tournaments at the Gold Saucer.

Komoto: In addition to this we have a lot of other stuff planned as well. Though there are a lot of people who think that the Gold Saucer is similar to the casinos in Dragon Quest, it won't just be a casino and we're placing a lot of importance of making it an amusement park where you can have a great time and not just a place where you can make some gil.

The Gold Saucer sounds like it's gonna be crazy I hope they implement the card game but hopefully it'll be more like FF9's tetra master where you could level your cards up and not every card was the same because of the arrow combos. Triple triad's rules were cool but the cards were a bit boring because there was no variety.

As for coloured chocobos, I've seen some coloured feathers around but just the end of the feathers I know it involves something like feeding it a vegetable at the stables but I'd like to see them enable full colours soon.

Welp I'll be getting back into FFXIV soon, jobs been keeping me so busy lately but I'm gonna have some free time soon so I'll be making a move over to Lamia This Thursday.

I don't really have anything holding me to Leviathan anymore aside from a few people but they already moved to a new server.

Regardless I haven't really played since Leviathans Release so what has come out since Levi's primal fight o.o?

I'm also planning on joining the guild you guys made but it'll be hard to get a invite I'm betting xD.

This week up until September 1st is a free login week so wait until then before resubscribing.

As for new content: 3 new dungeons have been added. Stone Vigil HM, Tam-Tara HM and Hullbreaker Isle.

Ramuh is a new Primal fight. Hard and Exteme is already included. Also you no longer need to finish the first 3 Primals(Gaurda, Titan, and Ifrit) on Extreme in order to unlock Leviathan, King Mog, and Ramuh Extreme. I can't remember but I think this applies to the Hard Mode Primals too. You do stilł need to unlock the first 3 however.

Hunts have been added. Hunts are strong monsters that can be defeated for Allied Seals. Allied Seals can be exchanged for stuff like Alexandrite, Mark Books, Minions, and ilvl90 Myth gear.

DeSynthesis has been added for Crafters. Basically breaking down unwanted items for other items. That's about it I believe.

Sadly I haven't gotten to meet up with anyone on here yet but I've made a few new friends here and there in Lamia, but I'm debating if I should join the FFF FC or search out one since I can't solo endgame stuff anymore with DF (so many asses D: )
