So, we’re all here and we all enjoy watching our different animes… But what brought you into the genre?
For me, it was Princess Mononoke. Yeah, I started watching Sailor Moon & Pokémon on weekday mornings before I went to school back in fourth grade, but it wasn’t until Princess Mononoke came out on VHS that I really got into anime.
My stepdad had seen it on the New Releases wall at BlockBuster (in 1997?) and thought that it’d be something I enjoyed. Haha, and I think he regrets it every day for showing it to me. I watched it… Seven times during the time that we had it.
I had them rent it for me three more times before they actually got it for me, and from there I was hooked. Soon after I was watching Escaflowne with a friend of mine, and I believe that Gundam Wing was beginning to air on Toonami.
It’s funny to look back on it now and see that I’ve pretty much grown up on this stuff. And it’s all thanks to my parents. I do like to let them know that when they complain that I’m twenty-five and watching Sailor Moon.
