Anime What introduced you to anime?

I first remember watching anime when I was 6, getting up early every morning to watch pokemon.... then when I got older, I remember me and my brother fighting with my sister to watch sailor moon on fox kids :ryan: also fighting to watch dragonball and dragonball z stright after it, since then, I been quite hooked :O

The very first Anime series I watched were The Moomins, Pokémon and Digimon. I remember getting up early every day a new episode of Pokémon and Digimon was on the TV, watching Pokémon first then Digimon afterwards.

This was during my childhood and eventually during my early teens Dragonball was sold as one of the first translated manga pockets in my country (Norway). Releasing a new pocket every month and it feelt like Christmas when the mailman came to put my subscribed book in my mailbox. I remember my mom hiding away my new books if I were naughty so it was probably why I (almost) never misbehaved as a kid. Dragonball was probably the only manga to become fully translated and completed in my country with 42 volumes which I proudly have on my bookshelf.

Afterwards One Piece came out as pocket books as well and managed to release 49 books (finishing enies lobby) but because it cought up to the manga/anime it was stopped. Naruto never sold very well as a pocket book In Norway; probably the first 5 volumes were released before it stopped. Yu-GI-Oh I also read but because it revolved around cards it didn’t hold my attention for very long.
I remember a friend of mine showed me Naruto on a web page where I could see all the current episodes at the time. I also remember him advising me to stop after the episode 131 something because after that there were 100 terrible episodes because they were something he called filler.

Eventually I had become addicted to anime that revolved around supernatural fighting and during my search on an old forum I came across a person that loved Dragonball, Naruto and One piece just like me. He also advised me to watch something called Bleach, which I will always be greatful to that person for doing.

The first Anime to pull me away from the supernatural fighting animes was Death Note.

Eventually when I got to the point where there was no more manga or anime for those series I started to search for other amines (because I was to inpatient to wait another week for a chapter and an episode). In time I got Fullmetal Alchemist: Brootherhood, Hellsing, Fairy Tale, Tenjou Tenge, Soul Eater, Claymore, Berserk, Trigun, Gungrave and loads of more animes/mangas that provided me with fantastic entertainment.

I also think that studio Ghibli became more interesting as Disney became more invested in Pixar and their 3D movies which I never liked as much as their 2d hand drawn projects.
My favourite Ghibli films are Princess Mononoke, Porko Rosso and Spirited away.

I remember looking at Final Fantasy stuff on Amazon one night. I eventually found the FF movies and then FF Unlimited. I still didn't think much of it until the next day. I went back online and saw the "you may also like..." list. That's where I saw the DVD cover for Angel Beats. That's what set it off for me. I spent the rest of the day reading about Anime DVDs on Amazon. XD

Adult Swim.

Outlaw Star, Inuyasha, Candidate for Goddess, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop etc. One night I stayed up past my bedtime and I've been doing it ever since. :wacky:

First would be G-Force, which I loved as a kid, though I didn't know it was "anime". I just knew it was different and that it was awesome. My first real experience with anime, however, was when a friend of a friend gave me a video to watch called Cutey Honey. It blew me away. It had adult themes, adult humor, violence, and a female lead who could actually fight! What insanity was this? No looking back after that.

Growing up, I was always into cars. Fastforward to freshman year of college and my roommate is hardcore into anime (I only knew of pokemon, sailer moon and over the top fan service at this point; aka not interested at all). We became good buddies and since he was always watching anime in our room, one day he popped in Initial D to see if i would be interested. Watched maybe 8 episodes in a row and have been hooked ever since.

The after school cartoons on one of the private networks in Germany. Back in the mid 90s they would show stuff like Kickers or Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs. Used to watch some of them, mostly Detective Conan, Pokemon and Dragon Ball.
Then went on to buy the only Anime/Manga mag at the time and from that time on was hooked on the better stuff.

As usual I watched Pokemon, Digimon, Gundam Wing, Cardcaptors, Zoids Chaotic Century and Sonic X when I was younger. Fox Kids, Toonami etc. Pretty good stuff! Some time later I hopped on the mainstream bandwagon and started watching Naruto, Bleach and Evangelion after seeing gifs of them on the net. Since then I got through a lot of animé and enjoyed plenty! Good stuff all around.

Well..I was first introduced into anime by Pokémon, but when I was child I didn't notice the difference from other cartoons so, for me, anime were just normal cartoons.
After Pokémon I starded watching other anime such as Digimon, Sakura, Lady Oscar, Dragon ball and others.

At the beginning of my 15s I starded watching anime a bit more complex like Death Note,Nana and then Chibi. Then I discoved Full Metal Alchemist and I went on with my research about this type of entertainement.

Obviously during my childhood I also watched some films made by Miyazaki. My first was Spirited Away and I finally felt in love with Japan culture.
Now I'm trying to find all DVDs of Myazaki's films *.*

One of my earliest memories of watching a cartoon was when I watched a VHS of Battle of The Planets. That was a westernised adaption of Gatchaman. I thought it was friggin' awesome, and have since been a fan of 70's and 80's science fiction anime. In my teens I wound up watching a lot of Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop. I've always hated all this fan service bullshit (I know Outlaw Star had its moments) but I've been a right sucker for anything sci-fi.

What really got me to watch animes was when is started watching Dragon Ball Z. After seen the whole Freeza Saga I became a anime lover. This anime has made me watch other great animes such as Cowboy Bepop, Ghost in the Shell, Rurounin Kenshin, Wolf Rain, Yuyu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Gatekeepers 21, Soultaker, Death Note, Naruto and Bleach.

Well I didn't have readily access as my friends did to Anime. The internet was so generic at the time and the speeds prevented us from fully streaming. The only way to get to know anime is by really going to those particular websites which could involve some "x" rating classifications, as unfortunately all anime is combined into one store.

So the first time I saw anime was when I was 10 or so years old. I watched Akira. At first I thought it was just a clever cartoon hosted by MTV. At that time MTV had also been hosting ren and stimpy and other crazy cartoons that I liked. After finishing this anime I wasn't quite hooked, even if I loved the movie itself. I kind of related it to getting into FFVII a bit later for the first time in 96/97. I thought Japanese was ultimately broadening my horizons altogether.

I watched the next anime when I was 12 or 13 at my friend's house. It was called Ninja Scroll. Ninja scroll itself gave me a lot larger of a horizon due to my love for Ninja/Samurai's. My mind exploded from this thought and the only way I was able to watch it was over there due to the gore and darker content that it brought in. I also was subjected to Vampire Hunter D, which to me was an original of it's time. I thought it was good, but only offered a little depth and had a little of a different genre.

I guess my next was Berserk. This was such a mind blowing anime in which had tons of depth for me. Most people thought it was just a crazy dude who carried around a big sword with a very unfortunate turn of events. My thought process is it brought in afterlife stigmata of dogmas at play and it branched out to establishing what true friendship was. Granted there were some super hero aspects of it, but it had a lot more than just establishing the greater good in human beings. This was really some dark stuff that they were getting to and I embraced it.

Going forward more cartoons were released on Toonami. I did get stuck on the DBZ tangent for a bit and I think I bought most of the VHS tapes until Buu Saga. After that, it was a pretty crappy show since DBGT was lot a legacy and didn't have good backing from the original OST writer Bruce Faulconer. You can't just take away the composition of the music pieces, then the stories become bland and playful. Even the most terrifying of scenes started to be non note worthy.

Later in my years I got into quite a bit of anime. Ranging from Tokyo Ghoul to Attack on Titan to others, there has been quite the bit of outlet. I generally get on crunchy roll, hulu and netflix to see what's available now a days. I did like Sword Art Online, but it was involving too many elements which made the cast a bit unappealing at times.

I'll keep an eye out for a while though, and shoot you my favorites in the future.

What got me into anime was the Pokemon craze. When it first came out all my friends were so into it that I had to see what it was all about. So I began watching the anime which was on TV in the mornings before school. Then DBZ followed, along with Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura and so on.

Afterwards I watched more on Adult Swim (e.g., Trigun) and then looked for others on my own. Some early ones were Bleach, Rurouni Kenshin, and Cowboy Bebop. I Still always like to explore new series that come out.

Pokemon, Dragonball Z and Digimon definitely. I remember when toonami was on when I was a kid and I would watch it.

For some reason Gundam never did it for me though even then.

I was first introduced to anime when I joined another forum dedicated to Dissidia Final Fantasy back in 2012. There was a friendly albeit shy member there who recommended that I try out Clannad which was his all time favourite anime. It was his enthusiasm for the show that convinced me to give it a whirl and to this day I am very happy I did. I ended up watching a few Key productions and was reduced to a sodden mess by each of them as Key are always sure to deliver a very emotional yet heart warming series.

However, it was due to a recommendation from the once-upon-a-time named Yu Narukami (now called @Thief of Hearts Joker) that I found my all time favourite anime, Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. This particular series had me hooked from the first scene and since then I have had a penchant for this genre of anime ♥ I have a few series pegged for this summer's anime fest and am grateful for the recommendations from forums members who have instilled my regard for anime, thanks!!!

hmm we have this TV channel called Spacetoon that airs anime (dubbed in arabic of course), used to watch hunterxhunter, captain tsubasa and digimon.
My best friend introduced me to Naruto in grade 7 and I used to watch it with her, then found out about BLEACH (my #1 favourite :inlove:) and so on :P

Hmmmm I don't even really watch anime but probably Cartoon Network as a child maybe. Dragonball, Pokemon, Digimon etc etc. Basic bitch stuff. (I dunno the difference between anime and cartoons shhh. Is there even a difference?! WHO KNOWS). But yeah!

You guys... I was so hardcore into Inuyasha that it's embarrassing.

When Pokemon got really big over here my parents got really into it because they liked buying booster packs and selling the rare cards online. They shuffled us kids around to different events and as a result we loved watching it. So technically it was my first. I remember watching Sailor Moon, Rurouni Kenshin, Outlaw Star... and apparently Medabots comes to mind? But my first anime, I felt like, was Cowboy Bebop. My brother was super influential on me at the time and I recall him saying that the 'real anime' comes on after 10/11pm, which is when Bebop started.

My parents had a pretty nasty divorce and when it was at its worse I found some solace by diving into the anime they had on TV during after hours (Adult Swim.) The ones I remember off the top of my head was Inuyasha, Bebop, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Blue Gender, Ghost in the Shell (I didn't appreciate that one till I was a little older) and Yu Yu Hakusho. There's a bunch more I watched (I didn't realize DBZ was also an anime till I was a little older) but those are the ones just off the top of my head. Inuyasha was the one I felt like was 'my' show because my brother didn't watch it, and I guess I felt like I was gaining my own interests outside of just liking what my brother did. It was also the first Manga I remember owning (I still have them!) and I felt really bad because they showed boobs and that was basically pornography to young 8-year-old prudish me.:giggle:

first animes as i were 6 were Biene Maja, Sindbad, Heidi and Captain Future. as long as i can remember, i was deep into Biene Maja. yeah it wasnt japanese animes, but european animes
