I usually don't go for religious debates or anything, but I think the good religion/the good religion can do is that in a time of great depression(with ones self), you can look into God(or gods pending on which religion), and you can be "saved" or something.

Yeah, not the best in these things, but what I'm trying to say is that, in a time of great sorrow, I think religion can really help you find your way or just help comfort you.

Okay, now you can take apart my post like all good debaters should. :3
      Onward I go
      Come back I will,
      But not until
I gain a little tell and show.

This is not a bad point, perhaps it could use different words for defensive sake, but it is a fair point I've also considered with this topic. Some people would call this escaping from reality or seeking help from something that doesn't exist instead of dealing with the problems yourself, but not everybody has the potential to do that.

And when a family member is lost it is always nice to be able to consider that it it not the end for that person, call it wishful thinking if you will, but sometimes moments of sadness call for wishful thinking.

I think you are correct that religions of all kinds can be used as a looking scope to purify ones tarnished soul. I have seen rape victoms, criminals, and drug addicts, change for the better using nothing more than religion and faith. You can argue that people should turn to real things for help, but thats an athiest rebuttal and honestly who wants to turn for help to the masses of people who are judging them and ridiculing them in the first place.

Once again I am not religious, I am augnostic.
Live life by your own terms. Its your auto biography. Many times the difference between right and wrong is only what others say that you should or should not do. Thus this is the difference between fear and independence. - Daniel (Me)

      noun
      1.
a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
      2.
a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
      3.
the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
      4.
the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
      5.
the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.

All seem to apply. Just because people don't sing hymns on sundays doesn't make it less of a religion. Perhaps a different one, but nevertheless a religion.
