~Thread Guidelines~

The purpose of the Square-Enix news section is to let our members know what is going on at Square-Enix, and inform them of updates on Square-Enix games.

To help keep this forum organized and make sure members and guests want to come and read what's going on, the following guidelines should be followed:

Make sure the news you are posting is recent.

This means that you may not post news that has been posted on the site of which you obtained if it is from a few months ago.

When posting a site update, put the date of when the site was updated.

This helps us to know exactly when the site was updated, if it has been posted before and if we have seen it before. An example of what this should look like:

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Site Update! [12/20]
Final Fantasy XIII Screenshots Uploaded! [5/31]

When making a title for your thread, be specific as to what you are posting.

Along with posting the date of when the news you were posting about was originally posted on the internet, this helps in knowing if we have seen the thread before and exactly what game news is to be expected when opening the thread. This all around makes the news section tidy.

Bad titles:

New Square Enix Game Announced
Release Date!!
New Screenshots
Wada Interview

Good titles:

NieR Headed for NA/EU in Early 2010
Final Fantasy XIII Final Trailer Announced
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Release Date: 1/9/10
Wada: Japanese Retailers are Prejudiced Against Western Games

Additionally, you should make sure that what is mentioned in the thread title itself is fully relevant to the content of the post itself. Titles that have little to do with what is really stated in the post itself are misleading and lead to unnecessary confusion.

Ensure that the thread is accompanied by sufficient evidence.

Perhaps there is some speculation somewhere on the internet that may evoke a lot of interest from other members, but please ensure that your news thread topic is corroborated with sufficient evidence from an actual and trusted news website such as Andriasang or VG247. Otherwise there is little basis to support the legitimacy of the news posted and the thread in itself may be closed.

Make sure to link to your source.

News sites put a lot of effort into getting their viewers the information, so they need to have proper credit. At the end of your post, please link to the article you are taking the news from, especially if you copy & pasted the article.

An example:

Source: Andriasang

The code for doing so (just remove the spaces):

Source: [ url = http://www.newssite.com ] News Site [ / url ]

Look over at least one page of the Square-Enix News forum before posting news.

News gets put out extremely quickly, so you need to read at least one of the pages of the news section before posting news. Open relevant threads to see if the information you are putting out has already been posted. This has been somewhat of a problem, because we need to keep closing duplicate threads. You may also do a search at the top of the site to do a double check.

Rules may be subject to change and/or additions.

~Post Guidelines~

In addition to the thread making guidelines as detailed above, members should remember that the Square Enix News section is also a post count section and therefore general forum rules on posting also apply to this section. Therefore as in any other post count section, short, spammy and at times irrelevant posts will not be allowed and may be deleted.

If for example, a post such as this has been come across in a Final Fantasy Versus XIII news thread:

I want this game!
While it may be referring to Versus itself and technically on-topic, its brevity means it is essentially a spammy post and therefore contributes very little to the discussion at hand. The post would be asked to be expanded upon, although consistent spam posts following this from the same poster would result in immediate deletions in the future.

If however, in the same news thread a post like this is made:

Wow, it looks pretty good. I hope it gets a release date soon. :)
While posts like this are perfectly on-topic and contributory, these posts may also be asked to be expanded upon depending on the content and how a moderator sees fit to.

Once again, rules may be subject to and/or additions.

Additions to the guidelines made with the following:

Ensure that the thread is accompanied by sufficient evidence.
