Devil May Cry

I didn't see a thread about it, so it is either DEAD or was never created.
So did anyone played any game from the series? Do you like it?


I played only DMC3 and DMC4. I really like DMC3 because the Gameplay was quite good, even though I am not really into action games, and it had a proper plot.

DMC4 on the other hand, had improved Gameplay. But I felt that it is all it had: Gameplay.
The plot was too much linear. Every part of it was expectable and was quite boring. I don't hate the game, but I quite dislike it. My friend likes this type of games, so I showed DMC4 to him.
He wanted to clear all modes, so I decided to clear it together with him.
We both, at least, agree that the modes are pretty lame and boring.
The same things with monsters who dealing a little more damage.
We are now have "Dante Must Die" mode. I have tried a few levels and it is only a little more difficult than "Son Of Sparda". Really nothing cool about it.

A friend gave me the box set, so I started with the first game. I'm still on the first game because I've been playing other games since then, but I like it a lot. I don't play that many action games, but this one caught my attention, probably because the gameplay is pretty tight and Dante is an interesting character. It's hard, but the challenge makes it that much more satisfying whenever I beat a boss.

I heard DMC2 was bad, though.

I've played them all except for DMCIV. For the most part I think the games are great but the whole hack n'slash thing does get tiring in a boring way after a while. The first game was great, the second was POOR but the third game is bar far the best one of the PS2-era. I'm a bit of a fan of mythology and of the Divine Comedy so the imagary and references really appealed to me.

The first one is the only one that's truly great if you ask me. The second one was a horrible let down and the third one was an improvement from that, though not a big enough improvement to make me want to check out Devil May Cry 4.

Can anyone tell me exactly why DMC2 is so bad? Was it a gameplay issue, or did they ruin the story? I know DMC2 takes place after DMC1 while DMC3 is before DMC1.

DMC1 was awesome and groundbreaking.
DMC2 was pretty bleh.
DMC3 had great gameplay but the story was so cheesy it was almost unbearable, even for an action game.
DMC4 had a decent story, and fun gameplay.

I really don't care as much about story in a game like this. Cool characters, monsters, and theme is usually enough to keep me hacking and slashing. A good plot never hurts, but there's a whole other genre of game that focuses on story and plot, not to mention other kinds of media.

It was a bit of a mix of it all to be honest. In the first Devil May Cry, Dante had lots of great, witty one-liners, but in DMC2 he was pretty silent throughout the game. The storyline was pretty bland as well, and the gameplay was no way near as dynamic as it was in the first game.

I see. Yeah, part of the main appeal of the first game is Dante's personality. I have no idea why they'd mess that up.

I need to finish the first three and get DMC4. It seems like whenever I start playing them another game comes out and I start playing that instead.

Yes, the major appeal of the first game was that it totally did away with what I thought it would be. I expected a lot of angsty "MY PAST HAUNTS ME!!!" bullshit but got the exact opposite. I was thrilled. I was delighted. I loved it.

But in DMC2, they turned that vibrant character into a boring rock. Not even an INTERESTING rock but a BORING one. Sheesh.

DMC3 was my favorite though. Love for Agni and Rudra.

I've played up to DMC3.

I absolutely loved number 3.

I can't remember too much about it, but I loved the game play and it wasn't too difficult or boring which is what I like in a game. XD
