This guide is to help those of you whom are new to this game, or looking for a few bits of helpful information on the crafting system of Infinite Undiscovery for the Xbox 360, so lets get started....

What is Crafting?

Crafting is the art of creating a useful item that will better your characters, usually in the form of upgraded weapons and armor, but with Infinite Undiscovery this also includes the manufacture of temporary increases such as potions, charms and enchantments that will aid your party greatly throughout your playing experience...

Why Craft?

Its true that a large majority of the items that can be manufactured through crafting can also be store-bought or found as drops from bosses, chests and enemies, but crafting makes these items obtainable earlier and also crafting them helps increase your crafting level, which unlocks new crafting recipies for you to work with.

The biggest plus of crafting is some of the items you can eventually craft....CANNOT be found as drops at all! There is also being able to make things such as potions in bulk and making hard to get crafting materials through transmutation, so crafting is definatley a worthwhile investment of your time!

Did I mention that there are several Achievements to be unlocked for reaching mastery level 5 and 6 in each proffesion of crafting?...Well I have now ^^

What Crafting proffesions are there?

Each of the characters in the game follows a different mastery of crafting in Infinite Undiscovery (you can check this by checking the tradeskill listing on there personal traits tab) even if the fundamentals are the same between two characters, Eugene and Edward are both blacksmiths for example, there craftsmanship mastery is different, meaning they have access to different craftable recipies and are better at working with other materials than others (this directly affects there success rate with certain materials)

In total there are 5 main masteries, with each character (including secondaries) having there own specialisation, the main 5 are as follows:

Blacksmithing
Alchemy
Cooking
Scribing
Enchanting

I personally recommend taking time to check each characters recipies and specialisations by linking with them (connect command) in towns and villages, you can also link with secondary characters while in towns and villages to allow you to use there crafting abilties, but since they are unable to be in your main group, this cannot be done in the field.

How long does it take to level a crafting profession?

There is no set time, nor no set xp bar for leveling crafting, its entirely down to working on harder to make items (the newer the recipe the harder it is to make, the more likely you are to level from it) if your looking to master all the proffesions to level 6, dont expect to do it in a day and in one sitting either, to give you a rough indication, it took me a little over 15 hours to level 6 all of them, so time investment will be required.

What Is Lunacite....What in the world is Armalite?...Dragons teeth? HELP!

These are some of the MOST rare crafting materials in the entire game, and I would not expect to come across them until you reach the seraphic gate, and even then they are not easy to come by, Dragons teeth and Armalite can drop from bosses and certain mobs within the Seraphic Gate, however Lunacite, other than a few chests....will not drop at ALL! In order to obtain Lunacite you will need to craft it using transmutation from the alchemists proffession, and because of its rarity, its extremely difficult to make and can result in critical failures often (destroying the base materials giving you nothing)....however if you save your game before each attempt and re-load from the save data if it fails, you can bypass the failure and make sure you always create the Lunacite, This trick applies to all manufacture of extremely rare and hard to manufacture items and will save you a lot of headache....so remember to save, and remember to do it often!

What good is the Emblazoned sword? A friend of mine told me to keep it, what the hell for?

Well thats a VERY good question isnt it, very good indeed, you could easily make 2500g by selling it and use that for something else right?...

WRONG, if you sell the Emblazoned sword, you just lost your chance to gain the achievement of obtaining every weapon in the game, not only that...you just lost Cappells Ultimate weapon, since the emblazoned sword is THE MAIN component of crafting it and the sword can only be crafted!

With the loss of that sword, the only sword that is anything close to it is the crimson sword, which can only be obtained from the boss before the Seraphic queen, at which point, you cannot return, not to mention the Sword has an innate life-drain, decreasing its worth at the side of the much more superior crafted ultimate weapon.

So Listen to what your friend told you, youll be glad you did!

What are these wierd books for? they increase stats should I use them for that?

NO NO NO, dont use those books for increasing your stats! Those books are an extremely important component of your scribing mastery and are needed to unlock the "learn all moves" achievement, as each book is used in the process to scribe a "Skill Manual" which will unlock the character who it applies to's "Ultimate Skill" (for instance, Memoirs of a Hunter, when scribed into its Skill manual form and read by Aya unlocks her ultimate attack "Simorag Zhal")

Fortunatley, if you DID use some of the books, you can still scribe a memoirs book, but it requires dragon teeth and its going to take a lot of farming to do, farming you could have avoided had you just kept the books!

Thats all for now on the crafting guide, any questions you may have I'll be glad to answer, so feel free to ask :)

This is mighty helpful, thank you, Shaun. :) I recently got back to playing this game after a few weeks of break. I'll have to print this out tomorrow since it will definitely come in handy soon.
