FF:SW the good things
Now there seems to be a lot of SW haters out there. I understand why people may have gotten mad at the movie but I also dont see why they make such a big deal about it. The movie itself was great. You have wonderful CG for its time. A great cast of people playing the roles and for some reason Sin Spawn were flying around.
You need to look past the name and watch the movie for what it is. Its a story, a good story at that. Forget the name and just watch it.

They were Phantoms, not sin spaun
I agree the CG is good for it's time but in my opinion graphics doesn't make things great. More pleasing to the eye but not necessarily something you would want to re-watch. I did like the story somewhat, I just don't know why they called it final fantasy when there was no final fantasy element there, ie: no magic.

No your right and in the other topic of the area I said that the flying Phantom machines looked like Sin Spawn. I've watched the movie quite a few times I know what everything is.
It got a Final Fantasy name because Square at the time made the movie. They wanted it that way. And sure it didn't have magic, but you had the monsters, you had the issue that could ultimately destroy the world.
It may not have had magic, or swords but it did have a slight FF feel to it. People are pissed cause of the name. I bet that with a different name people would have thought differently.

Yes but unless I am mistaken final fantasy does not have storyline focus and history with only one character. SW had this, a real let down when people look at the games.

The games are how long... 50+ hours in some cases?
The movie was what... 2 if that? You can't expect them to fill in 50 hours of gameplay into 2 hours of movie. Its just not possible.
Spirits Within is not a video game so I don't understand how people can compare the two.
But in all honesty there was some character development. You didn't only see through the eyes of Aki(sp?) either. You got to see through the General's point of view. You got to see Aki's interaction with Gray(Grey) and his troop. It wasn't just simple "Hello how are you" interaction either. There was a deeper interaction there, but unless you paid close attention you probably missed it.
As for magic... the world doesn't begin and end with magic. When I play FF games I don't use magic most of the time anyway. Every FF game is different, that is why the movie would obviously be different too, but different is not bad. In fact it is sometimes good.
Still this isn't a topic as to why you didn't like the movie. Its a topic about what was good about it, what aspects you actually liked.

I am aware of the time slot the movie covered and I wasn't saying the movie should have been 40+ hours long. That would be stupid. Franctly it seems like they tried to put in Halo elements and put final fantasy on the cover. Thet movie only uses guns and explosives etc which I would expect to see in a halo game, not an ff game. And as for magic, it is a key component in any ff game, even if you don't use it in battle there are many things storyline-wise in ff games which have magical roots.

I, for one, loved this movie. I see no reason why it should NOT be a Final Fantasy title, though other people don't see it that way because it's 'too much sci-fi, too little fantasy'.
I see no reason why Sci Fi and Fantasy can't coincide. Also, as for a lack of magic, I don't give a flip... Magic is overused anyways... That's like someone saying Final Fantasy can't be a Fantasy title because there are no elves. An overused element doth not a genre make.
If you hate it because it has the title 'Final Fantasy', then watch it as just 'The Spirits Within'.
edit: Oh, and also, FFVII did not have magic within the roots of the plot, though it is usable, and had quite a bit of Sci fi, why don't you all hate that too? xP

Well you know... your entitled to that opinion. But your still off topic here. It isn't why Final Fantasy The Spirits Within sucked. Its actually entitled " FF:SW the good things."
And for all the praise FFVII:AC got, on Rottentomatoes.com FFVII:AC barely got a higher score than FF:SW. So I don't see how the reactions can be so drastically different.

I do hate Advent Children. SW has a decent plot and the visuals are very good. The movie isn't a masterpiece, but it's really underrated because of the name it has slapped on the cover.

I did like the action supplied and the storyline to a degree, I didn't hate it but it wasn't as great as I originally percieved. I did like most of the battles and escape scenes as well, for a CGI of it's time it was great.
