It's because of the FFVII-tards that think anything FFVII is the be-all, end-all...
I can't see why people like AC better than SW, except for the obvious fan service and bishounen... Really they are both the same, except AC has a not-so-great story, bishies, a bit of magic, and slightly better graphics (due to when it came out, so you can't really count that as a plus, lest you are retarded and don't appreciate the past leading to the future).
I loved the story of SW. The only regret I have was that the characters were pretty serious and static, but, then again, it was a serious movie, and it's not like they had COMPLETELY mastered the art of CG animation.

Yeah, it was a military film IMO, it is a shame that the characters weren't as individual as characters are in the ff games, though as far the the graphics and story is concerned it is okay, the characters and various other things (stated in previous posts) it is a good film. Especially when they are trying to drive through a collapsing city(?) or something.

I thought it was a great sci-fi movie. I liked the characters and the plot was great.
I don't understand if people don't like it because it wasn't like the games. Surely the whole "spirit lifestream" thing was a main part of both FFVII and FFIX. And if that's not good enough for you, then just ignore the "Final Fantasy" in the title. It's still a good film.
While I liked AC, I enjoyed SW a lot more. It's mainly because I prefer films with plots I can follow rather than lots of fight scenes. And AC is all about the fight scenes, with a plot that isn't exactly impressive.

I think that The Spirits Within was a great stand alone sci-fi/fantasy movie.. you just can't look at it as a Final Fantasy movie, because it's really not, In my humble opinion.. but it really is a gorgeous movie to watch, with some really strong characters in it.

Eh, it was an alright movie, not very Final-Fantasyish, but still an alright movie.
I loved the idea of collecting the spirits, especially the one with the little girl, and the bird. :3 but still, there were no melee weapons, magic, jobs/types..... Not Final Fantasyish at all. Y_Y

*well theres the good graphics of the movie, yes, the entire movie actually looks like an fmv from a FF game.
*something deifferent well its a little bit different concept from the final fantasy games, its like a new adventure
*romantic??? i guess the chicks got goose bumps from the romantic scenes of aki and that guy
*another good thing would be itd be a perfect movie for watching with your girlfriend, you dont have to watch it and just concentrate on her hahaha

When TSW first came out I was fairly young, in that post FFVII teenage-hood stage, 14 round abouts. I loved it, again because of the eco-warrior, gaia, earth spirit theme.
While I was disappointed that they didn't push the Gaia bit more I really did like the fact that they portrayed it as a minority belief. What I mean when I say that is that Cid was given a hard time when he tried to publish his research to a staunch community who wouldn't have any of it.
In the end his belief of the Earth Spirit, life force, Mako energy whatever you want to call it, was proven to be correct and he was happy enough with that.
Also the final scene was fantastic, showing that the planet's life went on, showing the strength of spirit that was undefeated by such a malicious intruder.
It also links us to our environment, our spirits coming from the planet and then returning to it after death. I realise this isn't a new concept and was basically the main plot line of VII but it does build on that idea.
On top of all of that I do believe that TSW deserves the Final Fantasy title. Why? Well it had a "Cid" after all! :-P

The great thing about FF games (or in this case movie(s)) Is that it's always open to new ideas, yeah, they missed the mark by quite a large margin, but still... the graphics were good..?
