Did you ever talk with family , or people that do know you , but not as well as they might? You talk with them, and then wonder who you are outside of your own head. How do people see you, "what do they think about me ?"

I ask myself that very same question daily, mainly due to insecurity, call it fear or whatever you would like to call it. It's just that people expect me to do a lot of things, and I end up just sealing myself and avoiding most conversations that are related to myself. Of course, I've been opening my feelings a little and it is not that bad, but I still have doubts and fears. The sole feeling of not being able to foretell the outcome of a decision terrifies me, it forces me to lie to myself and to avoid decisions that might affect me, emotionally speaking. For example, I have an inner clash inside my head concerning a decision that I must make: to confess my feelings towards a certain someone or to swallow down my feelings like I have been doing for the past 15 years...

I try to ignore it, and pretend it doesn't affect me, but it does. Betrayal is something I fear, I am not good handling treason, hence why I keep most relations to a not-so-personal level. Nonetheless, I have been opening myself a bit more, as I've mentioned before. I remember fear, fear of happiness, fear of love, fear of joy....

Honestly, there are some things about myself that I don't know. I am not so sure of what I am capable of, or if I would be willing to do something that might affect others. I tend to orchestrate my every move, watching carefully all my actions, and setting predetermined reactions for possible situations. For example, if I know I'll have to say something that might affect someone, I prepare myself for three different scenarios:
A) The person will take it calmly.
B) The person will react violently.
C) The person will understand, although my words might be hurtful.

Nah, I doubt it...people change...so does time...like it or not, we all tend to change and forget who we are....

What decides who you are is anyone who can fully psychologically evaluate you and your behavior, and your genes. No one else, really.

I have a couple of close friends who know me better than anybody else, and for all they don't know EVERYTHING, they can often tell me things about me that I'm surprised to hear. And it's not out of modesty or anything that they surprise me, as they aren't always good things. Like one of my friends told me that I tend to 'rub it in their faces' when I do well at something, and I really had no idea that I came across like that. I mean, I don't exactly go upto them and say 'nyah nyah, you got a D and I got an A', but if they ask me what I got on a test then I'll tell them, and I can't help it if I'm pleased with myself. >>
But regardless, the way my close friends see me is really no different from the way others see me, I'm just more inclined to trust their opinions as they know me better and aren't as biased.

As far as this goes, I think most people do know themselves well. For the majority of the time, we understand the motives behind our own actions, and we know why we act in certain ways better than other people do. I know that things like this have come up with me a lot, where I do/say something and then somebody else tries to give a reason for it, as in 'I bet you just did that so... etc' and then I'm like '....No, that's not right at all.'

Personally, I just generally don't give a hoot about what most people think of me, because if I don't know them then they're not worth bothering about. I'm sure that different people view me in different ways though, because I can get really shy or nervous around some people which obviously means I act differently around them as to what I would with my friends. Therefore, some people think I never talk, whereas my friends think I never shut up, and they're both right really, because that's how I act - it's just different sides of me.

the people talks about you saying that you are like this and not like that. and you talk from your heart or you talk from your mind. you like this and you hate that. you are ..... these are the good things about you and ....... these are the bad things about you. all the things thay say about you is from there point of view and how much close thay are to you. but not from how much time thay spend with you. that is something i learned from a personal experience.

Well, to a degree I suppose the world has an affect on who I am, but ultimately, I decide who I am, my decision sometimes influenced by an experience in life, but who I choose to be, is up to me.

So I voted Me, I decide who I am, just because others may have an affect on me, I am the one deciding how to take it, how much I let it affect me.

I actually never cared what the others think about me, most likely because I know myself better than everyone else, If I didn't know myself then, who would?
My closest friend almost doesn't know anything about me, because I keep myself shut, I don't like to talk about myself, although when I talk to people I may take time to answer, because I think if I said that maybe I'll hurt his feeling or get him angry or something like that.
So eventually the world doesn't know how I think, it's all up to me.

I'm something like that myself, I don't really give out much details about myself to people, in real life or over the Internet, when on the Internet, I mostly stick to game related chat, not anything involving personal details about me or my life.

I'm rather nervous around a stranger in person, I never really been around people very much in my life, but since I've had a computer, I've loved chatting with people from all around the world, it's just what I'm comfortable with, it's just typing up some text on the screen and posting it on forums.
