Face it, people are obese because America is a junk food nation.

Bingo. People on my dad's side of the family actually have a disposition toward being overweight, but are my dad and uncle fatasses? Nope. They both have a bit of a gut, but that only comes from their old age (metabolism slowing down and whatnot). They don't sit around stuffing their faces at home and they don't gorge themselves at the buffet line. They work out occasionally and they eat right for the most part. Yeah, they have a bit of weight, but they easily prevent any more from accumulating.
I'm sorry, I find it hard to take pity on somebody I see trying to squeeze under the table at a restaurant when they have 3 or 4 plates sitting in front of them. That's not genes. That's lack of self control. Maybe they have genes that predispose them for being overweight, but nobody's making them stuff their faces with food. That's entirely up to them. Even with bad genes, in most people it only makes it EASIER to gain weight, that's it. The rest is all lack of self control.
As for the law...epic lulz would ensue, but I really dislike the government stepping this far into people's businesses. First they start mandating what can and can't be in vending machines, then make restaurants change ingredients in the oil for fries and such, and now they want to do this? Come on, the government isn't supposed to babysit people. If someone wants to be an idiot and eat themselves to death, let them, it would decrease the surplus population

^ I completely agree with this VR. If the government steps in and starts telling overweight people that they can't eat in restraunts anymore, what's the next thing their going to say people can't do? It's a person's own personal choice how much they're going to eat, and even though obesity is a problem, it has more to do with the world we live in today than anything else. I'd run out of fingers if I tried to count all of the pizza places I had in the town where I live. Plus it really would decrease the surplus population..hehe
yea where is Amelia anyway? I haven't seen her on here in forever!

Eh... I don't really think that should be a law. It's nice that Mississippi is trying to control what they eat, and trying to control their weight. It's really not the State government's business weather or not how much obese people eat. If obese people want to eat at Friday's, whatever, then they should have to right to. They're ruining their bodies, it's their problem. Anyways... There is salad on the menu... >_>
Lord Kaos and VengefulRonin, this is spam but there is no reason to flame each other. Next time you guys start going at it again I will give you both a infraction. Take it PMs please. D:

Obesity is just as much of a problem as being underweight, though. As though Size-zero models are shown all over the media are already giving a bad enough image to the people of today. Placing a law on who is allowed in a certain place due to weight is ridiculous. what next? A law stating that only people between 120 lbs and 140 lbs are allowed in certain areas? Pfft...

I think size zero models should jut be banned from the catwalks. It doesn't look natural at all. I can fit into 10/11 year olds clothes. I frequently buy them coz they are cheap
But if I was a size zero, Id look ill and Im only 5ft4. They can't really ban one extreme with out banning the other imo

It's funny, people always rant about separation of church and state and get offended when the two are even remotely close together...well what about separation of food and state? And this isn't the only shit the government is trying to control. I know in this state (and several others, I think) you can't smoke indoors, not even in bars anymore. The government, both on a state and national level, is really getting SO far away from a republic (or democracy, which people seem to think this is) it's not even funny.
I think the farthest the government should step in is making restaurants tell the health risks of something, kind of like how cigarette packs have to have the surgeon general's warning on them. That way, people will know the risks and the decision is entirely theirs to make.

No. and I have a few points behind it...
1. THINK OF THE MONEY THE RESTAURANTS WILL LOSE, NOT SERVING THEM!? (lul, I had to put that as number 1)
2. Seriously, though... think of all the people that would be kicked out... Supposedly 30-something percent of the U.S.A is obese. There are a number of families where only one or two family members are obese. Thus, the restaurants would also lose customers that AREN'T obese.
3. It's somewhat a step to socialism. I'm sure we don't wanna be another Stalin-esque society.
4. I think they should just make restaurant foods healthier. Then, it's just their own fault they're freaking obese still.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a bit overweight, myself, but I'm at least doing something about it... People that don't annoy me...

This was brought up in my Criminal Law class tonight. My Professor is a lawyer, and he was rather pissed off by this.
He is absolutely certain it will never get passed, and if it does, you can kiss the economy of Mississippi goodbye.
Why it won't pass and never should:
1.) Restaurants would lose SO much money because of this. They love purposely obese people, for obvious reasons.
2.) Can you imagine the amount of money that would need to be put in to enforce such a law? Not to mention the time spent, and the cops called in when angry obese people fight with restaurant workers.
3.) What about families where maybe two of the five members are obese, but the rest are skinny? Should restaurants turn them all away?
4.) Obese people would just pay off someone to go in and get the food for them.
5.) Do you know how much money has already been wasted on this? Three legislators presented a bill. A bill typically consists of over 150 pages of legal bull shit. So, thousands and thousands of dollars have gone into paying for these people's salaries, for the time they spent on this insipid bill. -Shakes a fist.-
It's the most idiotic idea I've ever heard in terms of treating obesity. How about, oh, you know, educating kids in schools about proper nutrition? Or spending more money on public gyms and the like. Not to mention, Mississippi has quite a large impoverished population, whose diets mainly consist of cheap, high-fatty fast food.
If Mississippi wants to help obesity, there's a lot of other things that could be done, besides destroying the food economy.
