Rap music is creative

I do not listen to much rap music but as a recent credited creative writer , and as someone who has an art history, art award for being one of the top students I have recently come to realize that rap music is extremely creative and some of it dare I say a form of poetry.

I am considering writing some and sending it to some one. Rap music is very creative and under credited.

Thoughts?

Being able to write a good and meaningful song or poem isn't something that a lot of people can do. Especially when you factor in that music needs to be composed to go with it. I suppose it would be slightly harder with rap, given that a lot of the lyrics rhyme and flow closer to the beat more than with other genres of music. So yes, it is in that respect. But when you look at the content of rap, there's actually very little there.

with some rap, you will find some meaningful and almost insightful lyrics. However this is not the kind that is widely available, you'd probably have to order it from the internet.
Sage francis is an example of this.
However all mainstream rappers talk about is; hoes, bitches, money, how hard it is being black etc.
There is nothing creative about that.

I would agree but I am some what impressed by the sound, flow of these songs even if the lyrics are trash. Some of it still rythmes and flows masterfully. Also the usage of sound effects, bird calls and that sort of thing is some times impressive.

It is a certain type of a appeal and if you listen to the lyrics meaningfully I agree that some of it is horrible, but I think that most of these songs can be catchy. I am against slang, racism , and that sort of thing .

I hate wiggers.
Souljah boy and fiddy and co are shit.
they sell their 'blackness' to middle class white teenagers.
They are commercial, and they are sell outs with no integrity, i find it hard to like their music because they suck so much and they are fake. They aren't 'gangsta' they are just using white people who think they are 'gangsta' to increase their bank balance.

Tbh rap is nothing compared to Led zepplin, the beatles, pink floyd etc

Really. Whats so creative about things you see everyday and bitchin' about it? I mean, Randy Newman does it, but I see more quality in his work. Compare:

"Its a jungle out there, disorder and confusion everywhere..."

as opposed to:

"I told my bitch if she cheat on me, I'd pop a cap in her ass without thinking..."

That last one's made up, but you pretty much get the gist of it.

I really hate the threads you make. Just thought I should let you know. And we don't care what kind of student you are, bragging about art will get you no praise. Especially since in college art generally = major you went with because you couldn't think of anything else.

Now as for rap being creative? BULL. SHIT. Try and tell me how this crap is creative, or even better, how it counts as poetry:

Poetry my ass. Poe wrote poetry. Tennyson wrote poetry. Baudelaire wrote poetry. This is not poetry. It is simply crap set to a rhythm and barely functions in its rhyme.

And I am largely unimpressed. Rap can't even be considered music, it lacks components. All it has are the rhythmic and rhyming components of music, there is no harmony to it, no melody, it lacks basic components of song structure such as bridges and the crescendos usually amount to nothing more than whoops and hollers. And of course we have no scales, all it is bass beats pumping over and over.

Why use the worse example to make your point ? It only proves that you are trying to make a specific point. Those are horrible examples , next to eachother. Not all rap music lyrics are like that. I never said I agreed with all the lyrics either. I am now saying that I think rap music flows well, is fun to listen to and well done, I never claimed that the lyrics were beautiful , but I do admitt that the sound of the words being rambled together in the differing speeds, and aritculation can become impressive. There is morale rap out there.

ARC-77, if you hate my threads then dont post in them chesse and frankly I do not care about your input about my life so you do not ever have to share ever again. You obviously do not respect me .

I think it's horrible. They rap so fast it's all a bunch of damn gibberish. It doesn't help that black people already have their own accent and it's hard enough to understand them as it is, but when they start spouting off words rapid-fire like they do in rap I'm lost. Then I look up the lyrics and wish I was still lost.

Are we talking about cheese now? I like cheese, especially gouda.
