Since when did religion come into this?

Anyway, I couldn't help feeling that this echoes the 7/7 bombings of London a few years ago. My answer? The tradition should be forgotten really, so that the souls of those who died can be put to rest. As someone pointed out earlier in this thread, you can't dwell on the past for the rest of your life. You have to move on to the future and look ahead.

On another note, I actually celebrate my birthday on this day, so you can see how it can affect me in a way. I should be happy when as a matter of fact, around 3000 people died that day six years ago ...

Honestly, I think it's very contradictory to when it first happened because the message in the end is, "We will never forget."
It's not exactly a high point in the history books, but we shouldn't stop remembering the events that took place that day. Thousands of innocent people lost their lives. That isn't something that can be forgotten easily.

Like it or not, September 11th will always be remembered for the terrorist attack and the people who lost their lives. There's no point in putting effort towards not remembering. I feel that's disrespectful towards the victims, anyway.

Well my American uncle died in the North Tower collapse on 9/11.
I have payed my respects to him and then I went on with life.
Many people say that 9/11 was an incredibly bad thing, and it WAS (don't get me wrong), but I really have to admit, seeing the towers collapse when I was 5 just made me say "Wow! Cool!". I don't regret it today, I was young and loved disasters back then (and I still do), but I realize how bad 9/11 was. 3,000 people died in it, and it is bound to happen again someday... but we will strike back first.

There's something pretty shocking that I found out recently.

The two twin towers look like the number 11
9/11 = 9+1+1 = 11

It happened on September 11th, 111 days left till the end of the year.
Both building contained 110 floors... There's more to that but I doubt the facts are real. Anyway, go to Microsoft Word, change your font to Windings. Change the shift to Caps. Write Q33 (flght number) NY. You'll see something bizzare.

Nostradamus knew this was going to happen...

EDIT ON 12/12/08: And I currently have 911 posts

In my opinion, forgetting 9/11 would be a little like (more acceptable but still fairly unacceptable) forgetting Thanksgiving or D-Day. It's just too important to forget and it's not right. For me, moral dictates that they should be remembered. I mean, the (I think it was) 3rd highest builing in the world, full of people, was destroyed. It's not, as I've said before, right to forget it.

But no-one can control anyone else so it's really just one of those things that some will choose to forget and some will choose to remember.

I think that 9/11 will always be remembered because it was one of the most tragic things to happen to the usa since Pearl Harbor, and everybody that was loss in both accidents, but what i think is that ys 9/11 was very tragic, but remembering it only brings back the horrible memory's that was brought upon us when 9/11 happened, so no i don't believe that we should offically celebrate 9/11 every year. Maybe just taking a part of that day and taking a couple of minutes to remember it, to just look back on how lucky we all are that it didnt happen to the home that you live in. My heart will always go out the families of the ones that loss their lives in the tratigy.

*takes off cap and remembers the events that happened on 9/11*

Just because 3000 Americans die, it should be remembered? What about the 10,000s+ that have died due to US involvement in the middle east? It's quite clearly a retaliatory attack. It should be a reminder to the US not to get involved in matters it has no reason to be involved in.

The difference between them is one was a war and another was a terrorist attack. And I never said that those who died in the middle East should not be remembered.

The difference is the Middle East killed people, but they died on a battlefield. This does not mean to say that it's ok to discard them and I never said it was. So think about what I say and what I don't before you start criticising me.

And, as for the USA, I don't pretend to be an expert but I'm sure they had some reason to go there other than oil (as most people say). If they only wanted oil, they'd get it from the Antarctic.

Firstly, they didn't die on battlefields. There was the Sabra and Shatila massacre, America arming both Iran and Iraq in the Iran-Iraq war, supplying Saddam with gas he used on Kurds etc. The list goes on from 1948 until today.
I'm not attacking you, just the ideas that you put forward, ie that we should feel morally inclined to remember an event, which when viewed in a non-sentimental way, was long overdue.

Like I said before, US involvement in the Middle East pre-dates the Iraq war by about 60 years.
