Memorial for 9/11 victims?

First off, this is not the same as Mitsukis thread . Anyway, you'd think after several years, they'd do this, and yet some people argue that making a memorial for these unfortunate people will further damage our economy, what do you guys think?

Making a memorial is kinda the right thing to do. Just as many people have gravestones and memorials to mark tragic or deadly events in history. A memorial was accepted to be put at the site, but it hasn't been built or whatnot. Memorials help people has some kinda of closure, knowing their lost friends and family will always be remembered through the memorial and knowing that, it helps then keep going with their normal lives.

Also, how can a memorial further damage our already shite economy? The vietnam memorial was built when losta money was used fighting the war and the country was recovering, but they still built it because it's the right thing to do. Screw the cost.

Its a stupid argument presented by people who want to pretend 9/11 never happened...

I'm glad you agree with me, it would be the right and honorable thing to do, and no matter what 9/11 happened, and its never going to be simply erased from this generations memories.

Well I heard they already started on a memorial building that is being built on the site of 9/11 (I might be mistaken though) but if people argue that it will hurt our economy then they should argue more about how the war on terror is just a waste and bring back the troops.

It is the respectable thing to do and I don't think no one should argue because if you died in a attack like that the worse thing that could happen is to be forgotten.

True, true... not only it's the right thing to do, but essentially it's the ONLY thing to do... I mean, if not build a memorial I don't see any other way to "compensate" for the people who died and their families and friends. They would be otherwise forgotten, and there's no worse thing than that. "It's not death that people fear, but being forgotten" So, yes... and if a emorial is already being built that's for the better, the cost there is a factor that we can easily discard, for like it was just said, there are many things that are wasting even more money.

Lets not get off-topic, more of our tax dollars, is spent on jails then on the war. But that aside, lets stick to the issue at hand, I don't want this thread's real point of view to swerve. Never the less, thanks for your post

Well, I'm kind of biased because I'm from New York, sooo....

Yes, I definitely think there should be a monument. Well, they're planning one (some sort of building? a park? something...?) on ground zero. I really do think it's the right thing to do. Not only for those who worked in the Twin Towers, but especially for those who sacrificed their lives to save others. There were a few fire fighters from my town who died that day. One kid in my grade (in high school) lost his father. I was there about a week after it happened, and it was just shocking. The city was almost empty (well...comparatively). It was a little eerie.

I'm not sure exactly what their planning a monument would be nice, but I am relieved that you and I agree on something .

I don't think that the people who worked in the Twin Towers should get a memorial. A memorial for the event, yes, the people no. They haven't done anything special, they were victims of an attack, and that to me, does not make them martyrs. Memorials are for soldiers, or for people that do great things, not for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't see why these people should get a memorial.
