And you may mistaken that happiness for someone using you, as are various cases for love having failed. It is because you love someone to such an extent that you fail to see if or when they might be deceiving you, or even the possibility that a love relationship might not work. Then it is irrational.
I have my opinion that irrationality on some level is insanity, but you may choose not to believe me, since it's been admitted that insanity is too subjective to have only one definition.

thats a very negative view of love though.
Also there are three types of love:
Eros as passionate love, and
Agape which is the love like that of a mother and child, and there is nothing negative, and
philia which is similar to eros.
the examples you are giving are negative.
Love is beautiful and it has many positives, if you choose to see it negatively well that is your own decision

Well, I presumed we were talking about romantic love, which probably refers to Eros and philia; there's nothing peculiarly "insane" about liking other people as mere friends.
If you think I'm being negative, that's your problem. I simply choose to be more realistic about the downsides of love. Don't think it won't have its thorns. In my personal opinion, I don't believe that romantic love is worth it.

it isnt liking, its love, another example then religious people and the love they feel for their god.
or the way i love led zeppelin, it's still love and can be interpersonal as well.
I'm not ignoring the negative aspects of love, its not a lack of realism on my part. But you are ignoring the positives of love to prove your point that it's irrational.

Not ignoring, but that the positives aren't weighty enough to persuade me it's worth it. In any given aspect of life, you may say it has good things and bad things about it, but if the bad things overshadow the good, it's not worth it.
It's like winning the lottery is a good thing because then you have lots of money, but the probability of winning is really low, so in the end, it's not worth it. But that's just an analogy.

except with love you choose, its not based on chance.
also with the lottery you dont always win all the money but you do win other sums of money, this applies to love as well, you might not find your soulmate, but that doesnt exclude you from finding someone you care for a great deal and would really like to spend the rest of your life with.
Plus love is beautiful and it creates beauty, and to me beauty is worth feeling pain for sometimes

Well, the pain in my opinion is worse than the beauty is good. So in the end, it's not worth it to me.
You say that we choose who we love, but we may also choose wrong, and in the clutches of love, may have difficulty realizing it, in lack of rationality. And this is the danger I'd rather not go through. I value rationality above all else, and to lose it means more to me than love ever did.

Thats where we differ, i value experiencing life above all else, the pain, the beauty, the whole experience of it.
I'd much rather wind up heart broken then being rational.
Quote:
But when the melancholy fit shall fall
Sudden from heaven like a weeping cloud,
That fosters the droop-headed flowers all,
And hides the green hill in an April shroud;
Then glut thy sorrow on a morning rose,
Or on the rainbow of the salt sand-wave,
Or on the wealth of globèd peonies;
Or if thy mistress some rich anger shows,
Emprison her soft hand, and let her rave,
And feed deep, deep upon her peerless eyes.
She dwells with Beauty—Beauty that must die;
And Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips
Bidding adieu; and aching Pleasure nigh,
Turning to poison while the bee-mouth sips:
Ay, in the very temple of Delight
Veil'd Melancholy has her sovran shrine,
Though seen of none save him whose strenuous tongue
Can burst Joy's grape against his palate fine;
His soul shall taste the sadness of her might,
And be among her cloudy trophies hung.

Keats says it much better than i can

I should probably tell you that I suck at reading poetry, because I can't garner anything beyond a literal reading. In some cases, metaphorical contexts might be obvious when it's simple and common, but that doesn't always happen in poetry.
So I'm not sure I get much more than the fact that you actually want to feel this pain.
