I saw this on the news. I also saw the video, it was horrible. He got hit by a swerving car and was just left there to rot and die. You could see the bystanders just looking at him and not doing any thing.

It's just weird how no one would do any thing to help this poor man. Like wouldn't you notice some things wrong if his not gettings up. He was 78! like c'mon if i saw a 78 year old man laying on the ground helpless i would go to nearest payphone or go looking for someone to help. Not just sit there and wait for help.

I was looking for the news about this on youtube and they were interviewing people who had witnessed the case. They asked one man, "Did you call the police?" and his reply was, "No, I didn't have my phone with me at the time."

I highly doubt that response, but even if he didn't have his phone, he could've at least went inside a store and call 911, or go to the man lying on the street and comfort him, or just stand there in the middle of the street to make sure that the cars driving past by don't do further damage by running over the guy...anything to help! Just a simple gesture of act of kindness...

Really, the thing that sickens me most about this, and about that video, is that the cycle of apathy was never ending.

It started with two cars, driving ILLEGALLY on the wrong side of the road because they didn't want to slow down, and BOTH hitting an elderly man. And after he was tossed around like some rag doll, they zip off without a second thought.

And it continued with the people who, not only did nothing to help...but blatantly rubber-necked. The biggest jackhole there is the one on the scooter, who zips around the guy to get a good look, and zips off.

When you see things like this, it really doesn't make me wonder how there were Coliseums and public executions in the past. Something like this almost goes to show that humans really do have some morbid, sick fascination with death, or those close to it.

I think the biggest issue is not that these people didn't help...but that they seemingly ENJOYED watching the man suffer. I think that, is the biggest crime of all.

I don't understand how someone could just, stand there.
While someone is suffering and might die?
If I was there, I don't care if no one was doing anything,
I'd be there in a flash helping whoever had got hit and getting my phone
out to call the police.

That just discusts me how selfish and terrible people can be.

They stood by and did nothing? That's disgusting. At the very least, one of 'em could have called 911...or get to him and see what sort of condition he was in.

And there were dozens of people. It's not like only a few people didn't feel like being decent human beings. That's sorry...

It's reasonable if you don't want to endanger yourself or if you're someone who doesn't handle situations like that well...but you don't have to be a hero to at least call for help.
