Dr. Wesson watched uneasily as the lights began to flicker. The crew he was a part of had been on the first manned spacecraft to explore deep space. The human race has explored the Sol system first hand, but going out past the asteroids beyond Pluto was something that had not been done before. Within a month of leaving the view of the Sun, something strange came into sight. It looked unlike any planet or star, any space matter that had ever been detected and yet it was so near home.
At first, the scientists thought it may have been something simple, in a strange situation. Light refracting from a distant star, shining eerily across condensed gas, but that answer didn't put anyone's thoughts to rest.
Soon enough, they received signals from it and realized that it was a combination of condensed Carbon and Nitrogen, so solid as to protect itself from the vacuum. We hadn't thought that possible.

Nor did we expect intelligent life.

The unrecognized craft came near and fired on the ship. Twenty people were on board and when they shot at them, panic struck each and every being within. Nobody had expected this. The lights flickered continuously, the back up generator pushing itself to the limit as every shot made contact. Their accuracy was uncanny, and the fact that they had weapons nagged at the back of Dr. Wesson's mind. 'Why have weaponry unless you knew there was something hostile. If they'd been watching us...then they'd know we weren't. Who else is out here?'
The lights stopped flickering and the ship was dark. Dr. Wesson could still hear the generator and knew we all at least had heat. The firing ceased and everything was silent.
"Hello?" Dr. Wesson called out, helplessly. "Is everybody okay?"

First Contact

You know the situation, but where are you in it? If you wish to join this RP, then you must either be a human, aboard a ship with no light that will soon be boarded by an unknown alien race, that could look like anything thinkable, or unthinkable. You might not even be able to see it. Alternatively, you may be allowed to play as an alien, about to board a foreign ship that crossed its path into a war zone. Will you kill these beings on sight, or will you question them as to why they're here? You have the advantage, and with it comes a great responsibility. Are you a high ranking officer, or a fresh recruit?

We will have no more than ten humans and no more than five aliens. If you wish to play as an alien, then I'd like to make sure you can play it well and you will need to PM me, first of all because you don't know what they look like and secondly because I would like to put you in a situation to see if you can play it how it needs to be played (I'm not looking for anything specific, just creativity).

I don't want to make a specific character sheet, because I'd like you all to be creative as possible. You may use a preprepared character, however I should let you know that nobody aboard the human ship has battle experience, so if your character is battle specific, he or she may not suit the role. Just the same, your character won't, for a fact, look like my aliens. If you still have a character you'd like to use, post it and I'll approve or deny it accordingly.
I want this to be fun and quick, I don't expect this to last very long as the playfield is tiny. If you play a human character well, then you have have the opportunity to play an alien character, depending on the status of both the humans and aliens. This is going to be about wits.
Humans will need to use their intelligence and tactic to their advantage, so as to protect themselves from their boarding assailants. If this works out, then we can have a very creepy thing going on here.
My character will be the human, Dr. Wesson that I wrote the story from the perspective of.

Name: Dr. Calvin Opal Wesson
Age: 28, born August 17, 2341.
Gender: Male
Nation of Birth: Italy.
Appearance: Dr. Wesson has dark black hair, straight and ear length. He looks Italian (as he is) and British. His skin is islander toned, because of global warming years ago and he stand about 5'11" tall. He wears a cotton, blue longsleeve shirt with black slacks.
Background: Calvin was born in Italy to the proud parents, June and Frances Wesson. When he was fourteen they were both killed in a terrorist attack delivered by South Africa, Italy's 'rival' in Potassium supply & Demand. Space exploration has become one of the world's largest focuses and puts forth a large amount of money to the advancement of it. The Italian Technological Institute, with more than two thousand full-time employees, was destroyed via air raid, with both of Calvin's parents dying inside. Following in their footsteps he became a scientist. After receiving his Ph.D. he moved to America where he could study and preform his practices in safety. The Americans were the first to launch a spacecraft beyond the limits of Sol System and after six years of tedious work and dedication, he was selected for the crew.

NOTE: There is no magic in this RP, nor will there be multi-bladed swords, etc. You may be carrying a pistol or handgun, but not everybody will. Any weapon(s) you acquire will be made, found, or taken. Many of the ship is in ruins and broken pipes, tools from the pantry, etc. may come in handy.

Background: Born and raised in New England, Helene grew up in an average middle class home and was highly successfull in her early school years. Continueing this trend she was able to skip her last two years of highschool followed by an immediate acceptance into Harvard at the ripe age of 16. Helene dropped out after only attending a year to pursue interests of her own. Her interest in galaxies and deep space soon became an obsession and stemming from that, NASA took interest in her intelligence and devoted curiousity to the mystery that is outer space. After three years of being involved with NASA she began to climb the "food chain," and thus won her place in the crew.

Name: Joshua Jerome "J.J." Williams
Age: 24, born January 4, 2344.
Gender: Male
Nation of Birth: United States of America.
Appearance: J.J. is of small build, deep-set blue eyes, and dirty blond hair cut at a short length, but with bangs hanging down to his brow-line. He's of pale skin that's often slick with nervous sweat. 5'5"~6", 120lbs (soaking wet). His casual wear consists of vests over button-up shirts and jeans all of dark and/or gray colors.
Background: Born an only child to two science officers, of Irish & Polish decent, Josh was usually to be found with his nose between a book (more often schoolwork) rather than on a playing field. Raised by parents equally away from home, Josh was usually on his own and because of this, his social skills were dampened. He has never had a girlfriend and rarely spoke to the female cadets he trained with (or the male, for that matter). He rarely stood out in any of his tests, but was always a diligent, hard worker who was relatively good at his job. Because of his meekness, it has taken J.J. relatively long to gain rank. Recently promoted to Ensign, this voyage is his first true Engineering assignment.

I think I have the Date of Birth right...I didn't see an exact date of this exploration mission...I just extrapolated the year it's taking place, 2346 from Dr. Wesson's age & DoB...I also admittedly went a lil Starfleet w/my rank & such...let me know how it translates to this world or if that's ok...?

I'm unfamiliar with Starfleet? Is that rank low, high? Somewhere in between?
Thank you for joining, btw, Translanka. I'm glad you've decided to give RP'ing a chance.

-My character was born 2341 and is 28 years old. Therefore it'd be 2369 or 2370, depending on the month. From August 18th, 2369 to August 16th, 2370. If your character is 24 then it'd have to be either 2345 or so for the year he was born.

Current Date: December 1st, 2369.

(I did just wake up, so I may be wrong).

Starfleet as in Star Trek...Ensign anywhere, I believe, though would be low-ranking. In this case, initial rank, in fact (after Cadet - in Star Trek there are 4 "Classes" of Cadet before they graduate).

Nickname: T-Kal (The Glowing One)
Gender: Male
Age: 127 (Human years)
Background: Ka-Ghar was conscripted into his army at the young age of 125, as is the law regarding his entire race. He has only been in a few combat situations, but is known for his deep contemplation of the issues. Unfortunately, due to his lack of standing in the military, he actually knows very little. He does his best to follow his training, but thinks through everything carefully.

I'll make a bio for this RP tomorrow. It sure sounds interesting. Hmmm haven't scientists agreed that "Pluto" was a planet no more? Did they change their minds again?!

No, they didn't. I never addressed it as a planet. Only as a far point of space in our solar system. Unless I slipped up. o.O
