my life semi-sucks

Lets start when my life began to suck...

Neary 2 and a half years ago, I moved from VA to CT w/ my mom, dad, and dog. We had a great house in New Haven ready for us to move in, but the guy selling the house sold behind our back. So now, we're living in an effing extended stay hotel. I have no job, no friends...the only thing I like about this place is the GameStop down the street. My life semi-sucks.

Just remember there are worse cases for people out there. I know thats not going to make you feel better.

The guy who sold your home behind your back was a jerk and I hope youre parents are doing their best not to let him get away with it. Have you contacted the company he works for? Thats agaisnt the lawand he can be possible sued.

Thank God you have your family around you and you all need to support each other.

Then why say it? This person is looking for support, not for stuff like that/things they already knew. ...Chances are as well, his parents have been doing what they can to catch this guy.

I have some suggestions for this poor chap anyway:
- You say you don't have a job? Is there any places close by, little shops you could work at? Ah, you mentioned Gamestop! Kinda like our Gamestation over in England I take it. Even if they aren't offering any paid work, explain your situation to them, and tell them that you would be willing to do voluntary work to get your mind off things. If something like that works out, you might get a proper job in the future. You could also see if they want basic work at the Hotel, either voluntary/paid. I'm someone would be glad to help you take your mind off things right now. You could also make some friends there!
- No friends? Is there no local youth centre/leisure club of sorts? If not, then bummer. I'd need to know a little bit more about the surrounding area before I can make some more suggestions.

I know I haven't checked this in a while, but I was afraid some one was going to say "suck it up and and get with it." I needed pity, not Dr. Phil.

I'm gonna take JRs advice and volunteer at GameStop. I've tried to get a job there and no one has called. So I'll show 'em how good a worker I am.

And thanx 4 the pity. It feeds my soul! Muwahahahaha!!!

Eh, tellng me what I can and cannot post? Dont go pseudo modding JR. I posted an opinion, just case you dont like it, TS. Its the truth that there are worse cases out there. I gave support to the member, dont go telling members, sepcially mods what they can or cannot say.

And I thank kindly. It's nice that you even bothered to listen to my problems.

Turns out we were the wrong ones here. No papers or agreements were made, so the house was still his and he could do anything he wanted...he's still an asshole though...but...

We might be moving to Maryland by the summer! Things are looking up in mid-2008!

Unfortunately, this sort of thing happens all the time. Property law tends to work in the favour of the owner who is selling, until any document's are signed. This means they are the ones who deem the terms of sale, and they are the ones who have most of the power through the law.

My advice would probably be to work out a preliminary contract, or even an actual contract, which specifies that if you pay "X" by certain date, the owner will sell.

Without a contract, you generally don't have a footing unfortunately.

Anyway, enough of the law, Sorry to hear about your problems. Volunteering is a great idea! It may not pay, but at the end of the day, if you have any problems, you can leave without fear of pay issues. You also tend to make friends more easily if you volunteer, as you don't have the weight of the boss pushing down as hard, and the boss would tend to look upon you more nicely as you're working for free.

Make sure you check the laws on volunteering in your area, as there are issues with how long you can work for, and sometimes there are age restraints.

Otherwise, Good luck!

Ouch...that's a bummer, dude. Moving alone can be tough...let alone moving just to find out that you don't have a place to go.

Are you guys looking for a house? 2 and a half years ago you moved...and you're still at the hotel?

But yeah, getting a job would probably be good for you. I met some of my best friends at my place of employment...and it'll give you something constructive to do as you earn some dough.

Good luck, homie.
