Do local chat shows let us down?
I mean shows like Jeremy Kyle for the UK and shows like Rikki Lake for the US. Do they let our countries down and show other countries the worst of us?
I personally hate shows like Jeremy Kyle as maybe people in the UK and US think most of us are scum bags who get drunk, have sex with everyone, cheat, steal and look like tramps. It can give countries a bad name I believe.
If you have a problem sort it out at home, not to be broadcast and repeated to thousands of people across the world.
When I watch shows like Rikki Lake, I know not all Americans are like that, but Im sure some of them are ashamed to have these people show them up.

Yeah definately, it shows the scum of the earth on its programmes and I always think, what type of people would really want to embarass themselves in front of a nationwide audience on these shows. Especially on the Jeremy Kyle show when the lie detector tests come out. Do these people really think that they can beat the machine? It kinda shows how stupid the people of your country are.

I don't think Ricky Lake comes on anymore in the US but I know what you mean. These days we have Jerry Springer and Maury, which is basically bottom of the barrel trash.
They are basically people coming on to take paternity tests (usually testing 6 or 7 men at a time) or mothers who don't know how to discipline their children. The shows are completely outrageous. Honestly, I can't imagine that people really act like that but I guess I just don't live in that world. I don't get why you would even want to broadcast the fact that you have 12 possible fathers for one child. Ew.
I honestly think they just pay people to come on and make a fool of themselves. Either that or these are people with no sense of decency or standards.

I don't, I thought it was the other way around.
Anyways, I think most countries have trash talk shows. Although it probably show each country how trashy people are. America seems famous for Jerry Springer. The show represents how nasty and trashy Southern people can be. It does tend to give Southerns a bad name though. Then again in the Maury show they have episodes such as my out of control teen and slutty women asking who the father of their child are. Most of those women who are asking who the father of their child is are usually African Americans and Latino women. Honestly, I watch them just because it's a hilarious forum of entertainment. (Just for those episodes.)
I actually went to a live Maury show. The employees at the studio would encourage us to get hysterical about things, such as the man cheating on the wife. It was our cue to yell: 'Booooo!' and whatnot.
I couldn't tell weather it was fake or not, the guest who was asking Maury for help. Backstage they probably told them to act more dramatic. The episode they were at the moment was filming a paternity test and 'I think my spouse is cheating on me'. I was wishing to get my 'out of control teen'. =(
Maury was actually pretty nice. He let you take pictures with him. The audience were offered pizza between the filming.

I think they do, now I don't know the two SS mentioned, but Jerry Springer is awful IMO, just bad entertainment, as for Maury I can't really say, since the only thing I've seen about that show was on South Park and it wasn't that positive.
We have show like that here too, I hate them, they get people down, always showing bad situations and things, saying bad thing about the government and what not. In my mind these shows need to be more positive, set a positive mood.

I used to watch those talk shows back in the day. I used to watch Jerry Springer a lot. It was funny to see a midget stripper asking some overweight heffer to forgive him for cheating on her with her mother and then ask her to marry him in the same episode. The Maury Povich show was funny because of all the teenage girls were 100% sure that at least one of the 5 dudes she laid was the father of her 3 year old son. Yeah these kinds of shows are the epitome of all that is wrong with society. These people need to have some dignity and not broadcast their silly little lives to millions of people all over the world just to make a few extra bucks.

I don't really tend to think about it too often, but shows like Jerry Springer and Trisha really make the US look bad. As for England, I didn't know we had any chat shows

You mean we aren't?
It's pretty narrow-minded to have that view though when watching shows like that. You watch Jeremy Kyle, and see some pre-adolescent delinquent that's already popped one out, ran away from home and got knocked up again by someone who's ten years older than her and still manages to convince herself that nothing's her fault. Sadly, there are people like that all over the world but it's actually a very small minority. Judging a whole country off the actions of that one stupid little girl is a bit harsh really.
