Blargh.

I'm quite fed up, I guess. Sick of so much stress and new responsibilities, but also sick of not having any close friends or a real social life. I can cope better than most people, I guess, but I feel like I'm missing something.

I know, I hardly ever complain about this stuff, but here I am.

I try to take my mind off it all.

That's how the daily struggle against life is supposed to be. Stress and responsibilities are part of our existence, and they increase in difficulty as we grow up. Of course, too much stress is harmful for health, for it shortens your life expectancy, can cause serious health conditions and it makes everything a lot worse.

As for social life, well interacting with others seems to be a necessity of most humans, though there are a few exceptions to the rule like those who would love spending their whole life studying and pursuing wisdom. If you feel like needing to add something to your socializing skills, do it now, or else you might regret not doing it.

I, too, suck at socializing, mainly because most of my answers are quite mechanical, and my conversations tend to turn serious.

Hmm, yes, I understand.

Damn right with being too serious. I have a tendency towards being serious most of the time, and it makes people think I'm an uptight loner... which I am.

Stress and hard work, I can mostly cope with, but there's just those days where loneliness gets to me.

In my case, I blame being raised among adults most of the time and little play time with kids of my age. Being serious is cool for most cases, but when you want to socialize it ends up screwing most conversations (unless the situation requires it). Responsibilities will always be there, now what can be different is the way you handle them, and how much you allow them to control you. Try to balance your life a little, a perfect balance is hard to achieve, yet not impossible.

Although I concur with your comments about being serious, I differ on considering myself as a loner, I prefer to be like "part of the audience" witnessing the "drama orchestrated by life".

But sometimes, the audience interacts in the play as well, it's just a matter of finding your role and performing it.

Yeah, I know how it is, it happens the most during days when I have little to do....gives me too much time to think....

Take up some clubs or join a sports team. Getting a job is a good way to meet friends as well. Force yourself into social situations if you long for interaction.

A few years back, I'd say I felt similar to the way you're feeling now. Lots of stress (preparing for life after high school) and a lack of social life (went through an anti-social phase).

Don't think about it too much. Loosen up and go find something fun to do, dude. *highfive*

I agree. I'm trying to do something about it, and for the most part I'm gradually getting there. Once I've got things sorted, I should be able to get everything else back on track. I normally try not to let things get to me, but this month has been especially hard, and my options have been limited by certain... commitments.

*highfives back*

You're not alone. I'm actually quite the serious individual as well and sometimes I practically have to force myself to loosen up and have fun. So much for "natural". But don't think that being serious is a bad thing. Sometimes life requires you to be serious every now and then, so there's nothing wrong with that. But you also have to know when to have fun as well. I can do it easily at times, but sometimes it takes a lot more from me to actually have fun. It just depends on the situation and my stress level.

But like others said, don't think about it too much, you know? Pondering about your problems can have its benefit as you can possibly find a solution in the end, but really, sometimes it's just best to leave your problems alone ("as is") and just let everything flow however it flows. Less stressful that way, especially when you do find a solution to a problem without even trying.

As for socializing...hah, I have a hard time with that in real life as well, but lately I've been able to come out of my shell due to the interaction that I am now required of from my job. I have very few friends in real life (less than 8) whom I've known for many, many years now and that to me is plenty enough. I don't hang out or go to parties with other people just for the sake of "socializing". I'm content with what I have and that's what matters. Perhaps you should also concentrate more on what you have now than what's "missing" in your life...it may make you feel better, who knows? We will always feel that something is missing in our life, but to search for it blindly isn't such a good idea for most people as some of us don't even know what we're looking for...in turn, making us feel more negative about our lives.
