Maybe Balthier was a mis-translation and its supposed to be Balfear? kinda like the whole Aeris/Aerith issue

It is Balthier's brother that he never knew about since Dr. Cid held him in one of his cages for experiment and never told Balthier he had a brother. Square Enix confirmed he will be united with his brother Balflear in FFXII: Revenant Wings. It is rumoured that Vaan and Penelo will stumble accross him in their journey together and renuite the both. Balflear's charateristics have been compared with those of Gau from FFVI.

Balflear was actually the name they were going to give to Balthier in FFXII but changed his name a while before the game was compelted. It's like what they did with Larsa. Larsa's name was going to be "Ramon", but they switched it up before the game's final production.

Balflear may just be the Japanese version for Balthier and you are reading it from Japanese sources.

That's pretty much it, the kana for Balthier's name reads: Ba-ru-fu-re( or ri )-a, which if you're going to try and convert to English text is roughly Balflear. Still, looked awesome that he was going to appear in the PSP remake!

Balfear is basicly the Sky Pirate from FFXII, but, that's the japanesse version of his name.
