I can't say I used it that much, while a versatile class it just didn't have much of a push in the attack or defense department, and is probably only good if you have powerful weapons and armour.

Well my Onion knight same lvl as my monk had almost the same HP as my Monk only with no abilities, lots less damage. Feels like either it's a just class for show or there is some sort of "secret" way in how to use it properly.

It increases in strength the more jobs you master with the character you turn into an Onion Knight.
I think every two jobs you master increases its power another level.
It starts off incredibly weak.. I mean terribly weak...
It eventually gets to be pretty darn powerful though.
I guess it's one of those jobs that require a lot of effort, perhaps the most effort in the game, and in that case it is only worth it if you decide you want to go all the way with it for bragging rights.
Myself I have an Onion Knight and I use it, but is still quite weak at the moment, though should increase to be a heavy dealer soon once I master my characters remaining classes.

Ahh, thanks for the explaination. I might consider mastering 5 more classes tho that I have at lvl 6, 7 and 8. Altho want a Dark Knight, but seems nearly impossible to get that one. I mean mastering Black Mage is a feat of it's own. Altho fancy the Ninja class alot, easier to get aswell.

The Ninja class is quite easy to get. The Dark Knight is more tricky, not sure if I have that one myself yet, though I haven't tried to go for it yet.
But yeah just master as many jobs as you can and you should see some improvement with the Onion Knight as it progresses. It's meant to be the class that is both the weakest and most powerful in the game, so it does pick up power eventually.

The best bet to making a dark knight is probably starting one of your characters off as a black mage and mastering them as black mage as soon as possible, then work on the other classes, the others of course will be a doddle once you mastered the black mage class.
A helpful hit for doing this: make sure to learn Gained JP up passive ability from the squire class, as soon as you start getting the class up to job level 5+ the JP really begins to fly in ^^
