Normal characters, oddly enough, are alot better than most of the special ones. The special characters are mainly only useful for their main class, and once you master that, there's not much to do with them. Sure, you could learn weapon skills so you could actually use their abilities even if you switch classes (Like with Orlandu and Cloud), but that's a real head-ache, ain't it? The only really useful specials I encountered was Orlandu (with him, you don't need Agrias or any other swordsmen), Cloud (Finishing Touch..good times), and Mustadio (Snipe saved my arse many times lol). My normal characters are all lvl 99 at the moment and are alot more effective then the others (except Orlandu (Lvl 89) and Cloud (Lvl 23).

Yeah.
My normal characters dominate in both.
Although I did over use orlandu in tactics.
In advanced my normals are basically all i use.

i've only ever used the spec chars for fun, my normal group tends to kick too much arse, i send out a few lancers, and keep a few summoners around if they start taking too much damage >_>

my main use is death immune calculators who ironically can do death all
(all of my men are lv 99 which means that lv3 death kills all enimys)

Orlandu was one toughie man. I always sent him out alone on random battles to train him up.
Nonetheless, i suppose it's not unusual that the normal characters get overtaken as the story progresses.. For me, once the story got to the part about that Rafa (Heaven/Hell Knight part), I had to say goodbye to most of my non-story-related characters.. Though sometimes i would send them back up for fun..

The characters that i ended up getting in the story were no where near as good as my characters that ive made seeing as i think i over train :S if thats possible. I thought that Malak and his sister were horrible characters, same with the girl in the green dress (cant remember her name) and Beowulf and Reis. I used Worker 8, Ramza, Orlandu, a Chemist, and Dragoon. I sometime added Cloud in there too but i got sick of leveling him. It was hard as he was around lvl 13 when i stopped and he was fighting lvl 93's :S

The girl with a green dress? Meliadoul? (Might have been spelt wrongly)
What a waste, though. I managed to find the Materia blade and had fun spamming Omnislash and Cherry Blossom when i had the chance, lol..

Ya Meliadoul... forgot what her name was xD... I didnt use here or Beowulf cause there abilities seemed useless to me only because i had Orlandu for those abilities.

but anyways i thought that Cloud was getting better even though his Limits suck in this game!

Well, Balthier would be another good fellow... Or so i believe. Hey, what skills would he have? He's using the gun right? I heard that he joins at a early part of the game right? Does that mean there's already guns for sale at this part of the game??

*nope,not at all!

some secret characters suck,like cloud,at first i thought hed be badass powerful,turns out hess just like a time mage only with more attack magic

*pwersonnaly i prefer normal characters because theyre more versatile and can be modified into better characters!
