underrated?
i believe this is one of the more underrated and underappreciated final fantasy games. it has a very engrossing, and amazing storyline full of plot twists and i personally, was shocked at almost every other thing that happened. the battle system was tough to get used to, but easy to master and become good at. the characters were AWESOME and the game was a real challenge for me since it was the first strategy game i played. all in all, i think it deserves more respect then its given. thoughts?

I have no idea what other gamers' responses to this game are so I can't really say it's underrated or anything...but I loved the game, the story really was engrossing, and it has a sort of darker theme than most FF's. The characters were pretty dynamic, and there were various surprises that kept you in the game, so to speak.
I wouldn't underrate rate, I appreciate the game.
I always look for the story than the graphics, anyway.

I, on the other hand, loved the strategy part of this game. But yeah, I found it impossible to put down when I was playing, I don't think I didn't stop until I either 'game over'-ed, or just got too sleepy.
Something just appeals to me about the strategy, being able to get of a situation with so many different options and with so many different techniques, it was just a blast for me really.

I really loved FFT. It's one of the best storylines I've seen & I do think it doesn't get quite as much credit as it probably deserves.
My only beef with Tactics is that you get a plethora of awesome characters with awesome abilities, but when it comes to Ramza he's just normal. I guess I just hated that your main character was an average joe (with the exception of being able to learn Ultima & a couple other Squire abilities).

that's a good point i would have liked to see ramza be able to learn all of the swordskills much like orlandu, now that would have been cool.

Final Fantasy Tactics definitely has it's charm, but as a Strategic RPG it's battles can be very time-consuming. Some people, i.e. me, don't have the patience to play that type of game for hours on end the way they would an A.T.B. based game. I do quite enjoy it however, and still go back to my friends' copy which has been borrowed for over a year now and again. Heck, War Of The Lions' may even be enough to convince me to buy a PSP. I found the story more to my liking than some other F.F. games, but I play a game for it's gameplay, and at times Tactics can just feel too slow for my liking.

Yeah, it is indeed time consuming, especially the random battles more so than the boss fights, just because there are way too many monsters on-hand at the same time in one battle.
The limits kind of annoyed me too, the ones that limited how many characters could be on your side at one time. I mean, come on, it changes every time, some are limited, some are not, therefore disrupting my preparations for say, a boss battle or something.
But that's pretty much it.
Like Ryker said, the plethora of characters were quite interesting...the whole recruit thing kinda makes this a managerial kind of game too, in that sense.

It is under-rated, you get all the FF fans taking about VII to XII, but in my opinion the story in this beats them all and the characters are second only to the characters in VII.
