Samurai

Are they really any good? I have one and he is basically a squire with a katana. His draw ability's are basically useless. Do they deal alot more damage at the higher levels? Mine is only like, level 20 so...

It's been a while since i've played Tactics...but from what i can remember, they're kinda...unnecessary. Dragoons are probably the best class in that game as they're the hardest hitters and have a longer reach. Then of course you have that robot who you can recruit and he's a walking cheat xD

Oh man do I ever love my dragoon. His name is Kain haha. Ninjas can be pretty usefull too seeing how they can double hit. Her name is Yuffie. Yea...I have no life. But my samurai, he plain out sucks. His name is Gordon. Gordon?! Doesn't even have an original FF name. Useless ass...

I love that vanish feature ninja's can have, it's great for back attacks.

The samurai's draw ability sucks, it's basically like Zidane's from IX only there's a chance it can actually break your sword. Since they wield it with 2 hands, that does make the katana more powerful...but still, dragoons are the best for tanks.

Right. They can use heavy armor and deal alot of damage. Alot of hp too

Actually for some reason the katanas aren't as good unless you equip the two handed ability. Its really wierd. A weaker sword like rune blade can do more damage than Kukuichimoji. Also the draw ability is based more around magical damage instead of physical. Give the draw ability to a Black Mage and you'll see what I'm talking about. Also the draw ability has some usefull area attacks that are good for the party. Masamune for example casts haste and regen on allies within your area. Muramasa is also quite a powerful attack, and can sometimes confuse opponents. So IMO draw is a very good ability.

You know i never ONCE used any positive status effects on my party in Tactics? And i never used mages either, i didnt like waiting several turns for them to go, so my entire party were all tanks.

I had a samurai for a while...then finally decided ninjas and dragoons were more useful.

Well yeah. But mages prove useful in their own way. Did you at least have a white mage or did you just use a chemist?

i never used a samurai in my party, i wouldn't think that their 2-handed ability could be anywhere near as effective as the ninja's 2-sword ability. and their draw out abilities give supportive effects to your party, not just damage. so i guess it just depends on how you play, whether or not they would be useful or not.

I found the Samurai to be quite useless...

I only got the Blade Grasp ability and Two Hands and left the job at that. I didn't find much usefulness in the job itself. They had rather low HP and had a less then mediocre amount of defense. :\
