Ok this might be a little too deep for some of you...but for others....
Did anyone else find Orran/Olan to be very VERY similar to Martin Luther and the other monks/theologians from his time? Uncovering the truth of the churches corruption and then being burnt at the stake for it? Marting Luther wasn't executed, but he almost was and many of his friends were.

Not only that, but don't forget, that people used to be branded witch or heretic when going against those that were in power. Tactics takes place in a world that is still within that time period.

Wow, you guys sure don't look very deeply at things. I know that people were branded as heretics and put to death. That's not who I'm comparing Orran to. I'm comparing him to Martin Luther and Luther's friends. Orran wrote the Durai Report, a document that disproved all of the church's teachings. Martin Luther did the exact same thing, he wrote papers that disproved the church's teachings and their scams.

actually it is coincidence, because Martin Luthor was not the first to be persecuted for going against the main religion. It has happened throughout history. The only connection that can be made is the fact both Oran and martin Luthor exposed the bad that the church was doing at the time. you cannot compare them though because, Martin Luthor also founded his own church after he discovered what was going on. Orran on the otherhand was just burned to keep what he found from the public.

I don't know for sure if Olan is like MLKJ (in regarding to ethnic support, which he didn't have!) , thought I highly doubt it was Square's intentions of adding in the idea or similarity (they did it for story).
You should remember that Alazlam is telling the story to us players, and should keep in mind that he could be lying to us all. If you take the time to understand the game, the actual story says that Delita was actually the hero of Ivalice and he ended the wars, and Ramza was just a Heretic of the Church.
However Alazlam is trying to tell us Ramza's side of the story which was written in the Durai papers, but the problem is that the Durai papers could just be a bunch of so called "gibberish" in order to change the views on the church (like making Ramza look like a "Hero" riding off into the sunset). The church could be telling us the truth, while Olan was beating around the bush, it depends on the player's decision on what to believe.
I heard about this a while back on gamefaqs, they had a discussion about it (I might be a tad off).

It's obviously not a coincidence.

this made me laugh. i think you should know, he's talking about martin luther. NOT martin luther king jr. Martin luther posted papers opposing the views of the church which he thought was unjust.
now i haven't played tactics in a long while (shame really) but i do agree, his character is very similar to martin luther. He also writes papers that oppose the church and is persecuted for it, much like martin luther. it's not surprising that square incorporated elements of history into their stories. i can't really think of any examples at the moment, but there are certainly plenty of mythological references. the norse gods for example. square uses norse gods over and over again in their games as summons or characters. i know myths aren't history but still.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree that Martin Luther probably was inspiration for this game. This whole game is surrounded in politics, and this link cant be just a coincidence.
But you can forgive people for confusing him with a more well known Martin Luther - MLK Jr. The only reason I know about Martin Luther is because I researched him instead of MLKJ for my history class once. Oops.
