FFT help just getting into it

I want to get into FFT and i want to know the chronological order and which is canon..
I was thinking of playing war of the lions, but im worried that A2 is unaccessible to me.. so will i be missing anything or is that jus a total different story canon-wise

no. the story in A2 is totly different. in fact, it closely resembles FFTA. if you've played that, then you should have no problems.

Yep, you're good starting off on War of the Lions. Chronologically, things go like so:

XII --> Revenant Wings --> Tactics (War of the Lions) --> Vagrant Story

Tactics Advance would seem to occur before Tactics, since Moogles, Bangaa, and the other furry races haven't gone extinct yet. However, since it's a dream world, it complicates things. It's likely a jumbled-up replication of the real pre-Tactics Ivalice. It's sort of an off-branch to the timeline.

Now TA2 just makes things even crazier. Even though it's a sequel to TA, it's set in the real Ivalice. I'm guessing it's around the time period of RW.
