| Tactics Advance While not directly a sequel to Tactics, the Advance version took the battle style from its parent game and brought it to the GBA. |

This game is not as good as the other one.
Tactics Advance < Tactics.
The story is deeper and darker in Tactics than it is in this game. I'm not saying that Advance isn't dark or anything (there's a certain hint of that throughout the plot though), but overall Tactics is much easier to understand and has an easier learning curve.
The job system in Advance isn't as developed as the one in Tactics and it's frustrating trying to get a ton of items just to learn certain limited abilities.
Add that to the law system, and well...you know. Although 'law' is an interesting concept and is definitely enjoyable to play through, it becomes somewhat of a crutch for the game at times, whereas the gameplay in Tactics was pretty much perfect.
Thoughts?

I found Tactics Advance to be an enjoyable game. I loved the 'laws', it allowed more strategy to the mix. However, I did find the story lacking in places.
Tactics I find difficult, but that's good in my opinion. I'm only on Chapter 2 on WotL and I can already tell that the story is gonna be deep. I do find switching between jobs and assigning abilities quite tedious at times but not to a critical fault.
In short, Tactics > Tactics Advance

You forgot the gayest feature of the game: you have to find equipment that sucks ass to learn the strongest abilities in the game that take for fucking ever to learn. D :
Well, Marche and Mewt were pretty gay features of the game, but they didn't hinder my ability to enjoy the game
I play tactics advance every now and then, but I'm in complete agreement of Tactics > Tactics advance.
Really, the only good thing they did in Tactics Advance was implement different races and you got EXP for any actions that you took that followed through.
Otherwise, yar. Tactics >>>>>>>>>>>>> Tactics Advance.

Tactics is better than Advanced BUT Advanced is a GREAT game to play and really shouldn't be compared too much with FFT. FFTA is a different story and has a way different feel than FFT.
Also, I kinda enjoyed the law system... as crazy as it sounds. I liked the added level of difficulty it brought with it.

I think the storyline of Tactics was much more deep and, as you said, dark, whereas Advanced sort of gives you a light happy feeling the whole time, probably from it's playful music and little sprites. But in Tactics, with it's big, booming, and intense orchestral soundtracks and sometimes nearly impossible enemies, it gives you a much more serious and darker tone.
And I also agree that the laws in Advance make it so much less enjoyable, except if you have Cid, as he can put stop on the Judge. And as for Tactics, the charge time for spells and some abilities can get annoying, as can the fact that helpful items and spells don't always work, which makes it really hard to revive dead characters when you only have 3 turns to revive them.
So, overall I'd say that Tactics is the better game, but Advanced is pretty good too

The story in Tactics is FAR superior, there's absolutely no contest. Ramza and Delita are much better main characters than Marche could ever hope to be. I hated Marche actually. OLOLOL THIS WORLD IS AWESUM YER LIVES SUCKED BACK HOME IMMA DESTROY THIS FANTASY AND TAKE U BACK TO BE BULLIED AND CRIPPLED! Douchebag
Despite all that, I enjoyed Tactics Advance alot. It was piss-easy, but it was fun and really addictive. I clocked over 100 hours on my first playthrough just making everyone uber. My second playthrough I got sidetracked chasing random clans and claiming land, I didn't even realize how much I'd leveled until I got to the battle against Famfrit and killed him in two hits. I don't mind a challenge, but I love being overpowered and destroying everything in my way even more

I feel that "law" made it more enjoyable, in the sense that you couldn't always just repeat your favorite overpowered strategy. It mixed things up for me.

The first Final fantasy game I ever played, so my opinion is biased.
But I think it is a very good game. More so for a GBA game.

There's no comparison. Tactics pawns Tactics Advance. here are my top 3 reasons why:
1. Storyline
So, in tactics we had war, betrayal, deception, manipulation...in short everything we need for an interesting story. In tactics advance? All I saw was a spoilt kid who threw temper tantrums and couldn't take reality as it is.
2. Characters
We have lords, ladies, knights and heretics in Tactics. Everyone in Tactics Advance were KIDS, except for the odd fluff ball here and there. Again, Tactics pawns with it's complex characters and it's fancy language. I mean, come on, don't you just love the way Ovelia says, "Unhand me!!"?
3. Music...
The music, the music...Tactics had one of the best music, second only to Final Fantasy 6. The interesting and splendid use of leitmotifs to pound the theme of the game into your head was a success, and the bells!! Nothing says "church!!" then bells!
In Tactics Advance? Needless to say, I rolled on the ground frothing. Not to say I hated it, but if you compare it to Tactics...*froth froth*
It's not to say that I hated Tactics Advance. It's just that for something that carried the "Tactics" legacy, it was very dissapointing. I'd rather play Disgaea for my Strategy Game needs.
And Ramza pawns Munch. Forever.

I could never get my head around the Laws in this game but by that I learnt how to use my different abilities and that's helped me in Tactics.
Tacticas is better than Advance but Advance is still enjoyable
