It could be both. Look at the person's name, if it sounds like I girl's name, then it's a girl. If it sounds like a boy's name, it's a boy. As for the scream, Humans always have that scream when they die. As for Ritz, the reason she screams with a girl voice is because she's classified as a Viera, not a human.
