There are ONLY 300 missions that are counted in your save file log. HOWEVER, there are 10 special missions that you CAN play, that DO have a storyline, and are NOT counted as "official". The reason you hear that there were only 300 missions is because Nintendo and Square kept them extremely secret, even in their guides.

Yo, if you used up a certain mission item it may have been important. You need to have them all and don't waste them. otherwise you will have to start the game all over. I have beaten all 310 missions. The judge you get on your team (SPOILER) is Mewt's dad. The ending of these secret missions tells you that Marche will become (SPOILER) a judgemaster.

310 MISSIONS
I only got to 40 Missions, then I got bored of it and traded it in.
I liked it but at the same time I found it annoying.

I beat all 300 and the Judge missions. Cid was cool to use but too weak :/
The secret missions involve hunting down a few corrupt officials and judges until you kill the ringleader, who wants to become Judgemaster.
Afterwards, you get (imo) a really, really terrible ending scene.
