Detention

It was a joke at my high school. I'm not even sure how they considered it a punishment. If a student received a detention, he/she was required to remain on campus an hour after the day's final bell. During that time, students were permitted to access the library (normally closed off to students at that time) to work on projects, research papers, etc...

I always thought that was strange. Hell, I should have done some terrible things so I'd have the privilege of getting extra work time in the school library. If you drive to school (most kids at my school did), getting home was no problem. It might've been problematic for those who rode the bus.

Anywho, what was detention like for some of you guys? Did they cram you in a small room for hours, or did they actually let you roam around, eat, and do school work that you otherwise wouldn't have done on your own time?

Hmm... detention.

At my last school, I only did ten minutes for lateness, albeit frequently. I was persistently late for school. There were longer punishments every so often, for repeated lateness, I'd get half an hour. What were they trying to do... bore me to death?

Most of the detentions I had was with my form Tutor who was a Science Teacher so they were spent in her lab. However she was also a very busy Teacher and on many occasions left us unsupervised for a time which allowed us to 'pass the time'

My school does detentions at lunch-time, and everybody on detention has to go to the German teacher's classroom and sit there for about 20 minutes twiddling their thumbs... Although I've only had one detention, and that was in first year before they started this. >_> It was because a girl kept stamping my hand in music class, and when my teacher asked to me demonstrate what he just did on the drums I couldn't because she kept distracting me. ¬_¬ I just had to go back to music at lunch and sit there for about 5 minutes... they let me out early after I told them I didn't actually do anything.

I got several detentions back in the Philippines, but for stupid reasons...like, standing up one time without permission when I caught a glimpse of my mom. That was so stupid. Basically I couldn't play with the rest of the kids during break that afternoon.

Then when I was seven, came to the U.S...I never received any detentions at all. I wish I did, just once in high school...just to see what it's like. I remember toying with the idea of causing trouble (although nothing major) so I can get a detention on purpose. But I chickened out...plus I couldn't think of any ideas that would have suited me.

I've never got an after school detention (what's appealing about sitting in a smelly classroom in silence doing extra work?) but lines that they give out in Break-Time detentions are a bitch, and really really boring ><

I got detention afew times, I only had to do an hour after school twice one was for talking & the other one was laughing at my frnch teacher when he spazzed out. All we did was sit in a classroom for an hour and we werent allowed to talk or leave the room. I remember laughing my head off and getting in trouble in my detention because there was a girl called Sultana in there

I got loads of 10/20 minute ones, generally for just messing or talking my maths teacher always had me behind but he always gave up and let me go because Id just talk his ears off

Technology was another one Id always get detentions in aswel, I just loved to torment my teacher

I only got detention once at my school, all I had to do was sit in a classroom for an hour, no talking to other kids was allowed and strangely enough I wasn't allowed to do home work, I guess it kinda worked as a punishment.

Suspension on the other hand was stupid, I just got 5 days off school during which I flew interstate to see my dad and because I was in year 10 at the time it didn't have any significant effect on my study. I actually really enjoyed being suspended.

The worst detention I ever got was tidying up the classrooms, the job the teachers couldn't be arsed to do imo. Eventually I got bored of attending and never went to another detention, never got in trouble for it actually. Worst punishment ever... Only got it for proving the teacher's math solutions wrong.

I get around 2 detentions a week, and I've had 17 After schools, and 3 suspensions. Even after all that...the teachers are friendly with me.
