Buyt out of the two I'd pick VII by quite a bit. It's more that I really don't like VI's music much, it has Terra's Theme, Shuffle Slam and perhaps one or two more that I'd consider good. VII at least had quite a few good tracks in it:
Interrupred By The Fireworks
You Can Hear The Cry Of The Planet
Cosmo Canyon
The Birth Of God
Crazy Motorcycle Chase
Shinra Corp.

And there's a few others I could add to the list. So yeah, VII for me.

Its funny that you said people consider the music in these games to be the best because it wasn't until FFVIII that the music actually took on an orchestral quality. Nobuo Uematsu was limited by some data format or something -- reason why each song was so similar to the last (especially FFVII). This of course only refers to the quality of the audio and the arrangements. The actual pieces of of music in those games have since then been fleshed out and rearranged, rewritten, and stylized and ended up fantastic in their own right.

That junk aside (I like arguing -- my apologies), looking at my experiences when I was younger, FFVII had the better music for me as did the overall experience of the game.
