Bolt won the 4x100m relay today with the Jamaican team, and they set a world record in the process. So three golds, three world records for him.

USA, UK (both men and women) and the Jamaican women's team all had nightmares in the sprint relay, none of them could get the baton around!

And to be honest even if Australia are behind the UK in the medal table, they're not that far behind and they have a third of the population of the UK, so they're still doing pretty well.

My co-worker said that they took away some medals from Yugaslavia (I think) due to use of steroids...? I'm trying to google it but not too much luck on that. Can anyone provide some information? I keep forgetting to watch this! >.>

Also, there's nothing more idiotic than the current judging system of Gymnastics. You both get the same exact score! So you get gold & you get silver! >_> Nastia got robbed.

It's silly comparing Bolt and Phelps in what they've won, obviously Phelps has more golds as swimming has four strokes, the medley and the relays, so more opportunity for multiple golds. Usain Bolt can only run two sprints and a relay effectively. The most any track and field athlete has won in one games is four golds, and that's about as many as anyone will ever get. They're the two undoubted stars of the games anyway.

New records are always being in the swimming pool though and Phelps effectively has only done what someone else had achieved apart from he has 1 gold medal more to his name and 5 of 7 world records he already owned before the Olympics, alongside that Phelps has a far superior training regime/equipment/diet compared to anyone else in the pool (both Michael Johnson and some cycling guy also picked up on that) whereas it takes something special to win 3 gold medals and 3 World Records in the way in which Bolt has done, especially taking a World Record off one of the greatest track runners of all time.

All being said, it's undeniable that Phelps did something phenomenal but I personally think that Bolt edges it in what he has done and in the way he achieved it.

I haven't seen anything on it and I've watched most of the highlights on TV this week...although it would be easier to find out if the specific event it was. I wouldn't look for Yugoslavia in the Olympics either since the country has now been separated into; Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia ><

I've heard of doping allegations regarding the Ukranian athlete who took silver in the female heptathlon. Blonska her name is. There's a very real chance that she'll lose her medal. Not sure if they're ruled on that yet or not.

As for Phelps and Bolt, I try not to compare their performances. Charliepanayi said all that needed saying. They competed in different events against different fields. I will say, however, that Phelps displayed true sportsmanship on his way to winning all those medals. Bolt was more concerned with celebrating and making a scene than he was with getting the best time he possibly could.

As if China didn't have enough Olympics controversy, now there is an inquiry by the IOC into the ages of the Chinese women's gymnastics team. In order to participate in the Olympics, girls must be at least 16 during the year of the games. Apparently, before the Games, there are documents that list a few members of the team as being 15 and 14, but when they were being checked for Olympic competition, all of their documents said they were 16. Plus, look for some pictures of them, they do look pretty young. =\

I'm not sure if this is a case of the US crying foul because they lost, or if China really has another trick up their sleeves. I wouldn't give this a second thought if not for all the other shenanigans they've pulled though, I will say that.

I just watched our Tae Kwon Do girl get knocked out of the running by one of Mexico's fighters. To be fair, she was carrying an injury and she didn't even think she was going to be fighting because she was knocked out earlier in the games, the decision was just changed.

The Mexican did look stronger though, and she did deserve the win.

Seriously, they do look much younger than 16. Several of 'em were missing teeth for crying out loud. China doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I got a kick outta the baseball game between China and the US a few days ago. China lost the game 9-1, yet they acted like they won the gold medal when one of their players hit a measley solo home run. What class!

Perhaps they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt, but it's a difficult allegation to prove. The only way you can know someone's actual age is by their government documents, after all. If it's in the government's best interest for a citizen to be a certain age, why not make it so? Then again, there's no other way to prove they are younger than they should be. It's an interesting Catch-22 situation.

The fact that the Chinese continually point out the fact that "their passport says they are 16, so that should be enough" is enough to make me not believe them. If you read the articles, it sounds like they've been caught red-handed and are trying to get out of yet more embarrassment. =P
