Downtime early next week due to server move
The forums will be going down for a few hours late next Monday or Tuesday evening. The site will be switching servers. The new server is a minor upgrade over the current one, though the difference will likely not be noticeable.
There will likely be some hiccups early on after the transfer is complete, as the new server has different configuration files which will probably need to be tweaked.

No, they don't do that, silly.
The new server is probably to make the site work faster or better. Besides, if it's not working for a while, go do something else. I know I will be if the site's being slow for me, anyway.

That sounds good, I have had a five second lag whenever I click on, well...anything. It even lags a bit when I'm typing sometimes. I know its not my computer and my internet is pretty fast. So if that's improved a little bit, I'm good with waiting a whole day. Well, alright. Half a day.

Thanks for letting us know, LG. I'm hoping this really does help out with the lag we've been experiencing a lot as of late. Especially in posting and the SB. The lag doesn't usually bother or affect me to a great extent, but it does happen on occasion. Hopefully this will make it easier for those members who encounter it frequently.

I really like this idea! I think we'll see a huge difference in all honesty. I mean, when the site runs nicely, it runs pretty quick, but I think it will be highly noticeable as it will prevent frequent lag spikes from occuring. I'm willing to see FFF go down for a few hours to sort out a potential issue.

The transfer should take a few hours, and also the the nameservers have to propogate - that too would take a few hours, and you'd see the site on the old server until then.
Nothing will be removed.
I don't know if this will improve any lag, as I said the upgrade is fairly minor and mostly for things that will not affect performance, e.g. hard disk space.

Thanks for the Update, bud.
If you are upping the HD space, it might actually speed things up depending on the usage. It has been proven using more than 90% of resources on a server HD bogs down the memory allocation as well as the speed of the processor. (hince another reason for constant defragmenting) So if this increases the space.. we might see small speed changes. Might be nothing to write home about, but we can only hope!
