I should have been more specific in asking if he had some experience in his life that made him that...perverted. Either that, or he's just like that. I'm just curious to like to know what the causes are for people who are considered by most others to be "evil".

Nature vs Nurture.
I don't think we can know one way or the other.
However he was charged with rape in 1974 I think

Thing is, you can't find an exact reason as to why people do the crazy things that they do. Humans don't even comprehend their own minds sometimes. There is really no logical explanation for causes of insanity. Can we really come up with a physiological reason? Not really. How much is known about the brain and the nervous system? Not very much. As far as I'm concerned, it's a person's motive and willingness to do a horrendous crime that's the problem. Period. Causes behind them? Unknown, if many, if none. =]

Notice that we're always looking to point fingers at someone, something, someone's past...but how often do we point fingers at ourselves? The very cause could be ourselves (by choices we make), and quite frankly, I do not want to ponder about the guy's mental problems or whether he was done wrong in the past which may have made him to be the way that he is. There is no excuse for him at all.

I didn't say that wasn't a plausible reason, but if he had a motive for locking up his own daughter, raping her and having kids with her, I would like to know why he was compelled to do that.

I don't know if I didn't make that clear, but I don't mean that people should have to blame others for the things they did, but for something this bizarre, there must have been some reason for it. Because by all normal standards, it's considered crazy. Again, I am asking this out of curiosity, and not because I think pointing fingers or placing the blame on someone else will solve anything.

Meh, I probably just read too much between the lines. I see what you mean, but I seriously think that no one can really know as to why he did such a thing, try as they might. It's just one of those things that are beyond our understanding, but of course, that is not to say that the guy didn't understand. Who knows? He probably knew what he was doing all along and found no remorse of his actions (which is, by the way, what I believe is the case). And then there are others who may say that he was not in the right of mind and didn't know what he was doing. I don't support that, and I'm sure many don't as well. Reasons or not, it is beyond unbelievable and clearly, our own understanding.

Bah, I'm being redundant here. But my point is, I would not waste time trying to find reasons as to why people do these things. It just happens, unfortunately.

But you know, I do wonder...how in the hell did she manage to pop out seven kids by herself...? Also, did she have supplies of diapers? If so, her father must have provided them...so I do wonder if anyone noticed him bringing supplies (whether it be food, clothes, etc.) into the cell.

I don't think the money would be wasted at all, if we found out his reason for doing what he did, it could perhaps be prevented.
Sure things like this are always going to happen, but we can try to reduce the amount of times it happens.

Man kept his daughter captive for 24 years.

Ok this is just disgusting. I can't imagine being captive in a basement for twenty-four years... Ugh the thought of this just makes me sick.

I wonder how this woman managed to make it through this. And I hope that sick bastard gets what he deserves. Twenty-four years! That's longer than I've been alive!
