Which company had the best music?
Out of Nintendo & Sony (Or other if you prefer), which company's games had the best music? Personally, I'm going with Nintendo on this one. I absolutely loved the music from Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Pokemon (Yes, I like Pokemon and I'm proud of it.), and Star Fox. Don't get me wrong, the music from Sony's side are still good, but I prefer the classics from Nintendo. Also, this thread includes second and third party games as well. So games like Final Fantasy, Mega Man and Metal Gear Solid are eligible.
NOTE: I apologize if I put this in the wrong section. Could a mod please move this to the appropriate section if needed.

I have to agree with you. At first I was going to say Sony because of the later Final Fantasy games... But now that you mentioned the classics, it's Nintendo all the way. Duck Tales for the nes had great music. =P

What about Sega? Sonic had some quality music...anyway, as much as I LOVE the Mario music I'm gunna go with Sony, I listen to the FF music when I'm not gaming so....that get's my vote .

It isn't close. Nintendo easily gets my vote. Each of Nintendo's series can be defined with a dozen themes each.
I'll never tire of the music that plays with Zelda, Metroid and Mario.

Sonic on Sega (and even now, really) had win music, and so did Toejam and Earl, but that's not enough to give the console more than a mention IMO.
Nintendo has some great stuff, like Pokemans, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong, old FF's, Chrono Trigger, Mega Man...but Sony has the really epic stuff. FF7-10, Xenogears/Saga (Yasunori Mitsuda, anyone?), Chrono Cross (OST is superior to Trigger), God of War, Metal Gear (yes yes, I know it started on Nintendo, but Sony is when it started getting epic musicz). So my vote goes to Sony.

I can't really say Nintendo 'cause the only game I remember the music from is when I played was KH:CoM (haven't beat it by the way) for the GBA.
Otherwise, I have to say Sony. Almost all my games are for the PS1 or PS2.
Although, I'm pretty sure music is more dependent on individual games rather than what console you play.
I mean, DMC4 for example, is on the XBOX 360 AND the PS3. The most you can arge in that case is the sound quality between different systems.

SEGA beats them both into the dirt. Sonic 1, 2 and S&Knuckles had epic music, add to that the fact that you had the legend that is Yuzo Koshiro composing other awesome soundtracks for Shinobi and Streets Of Rage.
Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Castlevania Bloodlines, Vectorman ( admitedly that soundtrack is a bit of an acquired taste ), Virtua Fighter series, Daytona USA, Virtual On....the list of awesome soundtracks just keeps going for them.
I'm not much of a fan of Nintendo's music. 1st generation Pokemon, F-Zero and Donkey Kong Country have damn good soundtracks but I can't ever really say that I've had much love for the likes of the Zelda or Mario soundtracks.
and I'm reluctant to give a vote to Sony since there's pretty much nothing composed for an in-house or first party game that really stands out to me, it'd feel cheap to give them good marks for works done by others.

Well, Nintendo did have some great music, (especially Super Mario) but in all honesty, it's one of those memorable moments for me now - a reminiscence of childhood years, if you will...and that is mainly the reason why I'd also call it epic.
But I'm gonna have to go with Sony here. I just prefer those kind of music. Some are upbeat and catchy, while others are soothing. They have variety, most of them are excellent, and definitely the best quality music I've heard in games.

Nintendo. I still find my self humming classics such as Mario, Zelda, Castlevania, Mega Man and many others.
As for Sony, I feel that most of their music for the most part is forgettable and not something that I would enjoy years down the line.

Sony > Nintendo
Why?
The Metal Gear Main Theme. What a track.
On the otherhand I couldn't hum you a Nintendo tune, guess I'm not a, what some would call a "nintenfag"
MOD EDIT: don't make that kind of remark in future.
