What happens when you die?

There are too many theorys out there about what happens when you die. What do You think happens when you die?

personally i believe in either some sort of spirit world - kinda like Immortality of the soul would be the best phrase to describe it - or we just get reincarnated, my theory differs from mood to mood but those are my two most consistent theories.

There's no one who's been dead on an operating table long enough to have any sort of valid proof of what it's like to actually be dead.

So unless someone physically dies and comes back to life a year later, there aren't any real leads, are there?

And don't pull that "well Jesus did it" bit, because no one in this day and age ever really sat down and had this conversation with him. O.o

I can tell you exactly what happens when you die.

First you get really stiff, then you turn funny colours. Then you begin to stink. Usually someone buries you, and you slowly rot and are eaten by various organisms until only your bones are left.

After you die, your body returns from where it came. I don't mean that in the religious or spiritual sense, I mean it in the scientific manner. Soon after death your body is recycled. Since we're organic, your flesh begins to decompose. After which your organic material will decompose further by feeding the worms, beetles and such. Or something along those lines, I don't quite recall, I studied biology a long time ago...

I'm not really into believing that there's such a thing as heaven or hell, or even any kind of afterlife. As much as I'd like to believe that such a thing exists, I really don't see it happening. I'm also not the kind of person to advocate that you'll just rot away six feet under. I suppose I'm kind of in the middle, for a change.

I like the idea of a heaven where everything is finally perfect all the time, and you get to be with your loved ones. The problem with this is that you can't please everyone, unless of course everyone created their own heaven and it's unique to each individual. Even that would be complicated though, because if one person wanted another in their heaven, but another didn't... both can't be pleased. I think I believe in reincarnation, although the thought scares me. Looking through someone else's eyes scares me. Everything else in science is a cycle though, and it would make the most sense to be that souls recycle too. We don't know what a soul is really, or what enables life energy... but and endless cycle is the most logical explanation to me.

Well, I wish I knew, or perhaps I don't. My opinion is that you feel exactly as you did in 1802, or 1066 or 4000 BC. To be honest, I think I was pretty chilled (ie non-sentient) during those years.

Maybe it's the whole Walt Whitman theory. Where you die, you become the grass, then something eats you and you become part of them...

I don't know if that's even right. XD My English teacher was so obsessed with this idea last semester and told us that we should all have seeds or something like that planted above our graves.

Rydia, I think you have hit on somthing. One does not need to believe in mysticism or religion to believe in continued existance in some form, I find that comforting.
