Yep, that's the reason I've heard that lust is a sin. It distracts you from prayer and your worship of God. God is the only person you should "lust" after...or something to that extent.
However, several years ago I read something about how the Catholic Church was reconsidering the inclusion of lust in the deadly sins. They were starting to recognize that it is a healthy human emotion. Ultimately, I guess they didn't deem it to be quite healthy enough to be removed from the deadly sins.
I agree with this comparison of humans to animals. Humans, like animals, have natural urges to spread their seed. That's just the way we're programmed. Lust is something that promotes the spreading of seed; it encourages mating. I think it's sick and unnatural to deny those sorts of feelings. In all honesty, I think suppressing those sorts of feelings is just setting yourself up for some deep psychological issues in the future. I think we all have Christianity to thank for the idea that lust is a bad thing. The Old Testament is pretty open to the idea of sexuality-- just look at the Song of Solomon. It's an entire chapter of the Bible dedicated to sex! Hooray! But then Christianity came along and deemed sexuality to be impure and disgusting (completely ignoring the fact that it's human nature and completely natural). Screw that. I think Christianity has a really creepy and weird virgin obsession. They're like a cult of virginity. As far as I'm concerned, Christian concepts of sexuality are unnatural and unhealthy.

Agreed And frankly, you become rather pathetic when you don't masturbate and try to keep "lust" away.
There's this preacher boy I've known since 8'th grade, and I'm always making fun of him and corrupting his morals (I don't know WHY he considers me a friend). Well, he's got that whole mentality of "mmm...what I wouldn't do to her if we were married" going on, and that even doing so much as making out before marriage or looking at porn is bad. So one day back in December, I show this idiot some very well-animated Teen Titans pr0n on Newgrounds (I even told him it was an Adult Swim only episode, and being the moron he is he believed me). He managed not to fap to it, though it turned him on pretty good. So about a month later he calls me up, says that at night when he's lying in bed he can't get that video out of his head and he has to fap to it. Naturally I laughed my ass off at that, but I'd say he's a pretty good example of what happens when you try to repress something natural: you get turned on by cartoons. Frankly it's kind of sad and pathetic, but I'm a sadistic bastard so I love to torture him with things like that.
Actually I have another example, and this is something the preacher boy was telling me a few months ago. There was this couple at his church, and the wife refused to have sex. Due to her upbringing, she didn't just view sex as something unclean, she was downright afraid of it. Her poor husband couldn't talk her into doing it, and their marriage started to get really fragile. I should ask the preacher boy for an update on their status, but my guess is that they're divorced by now.
Sex is natural; lust is natural. They're not unclean, nor are they "sins of the flesh." Advanced as humans are, our species is still an animal and still has basic instincts: the "fight or flight" instinct, the instinct to nurture children, the instinct to reproduce, etc.

I agree, repressing these feelings leads to their expression through unnatural ways, such as the famous abuse of choir/altair boys in the roman catholic church.
The church should distribute leaflets encouraging priests to wank off more...I wish I could design them

lol'd.
I think it's ignorant to view masturbation as a bad thing. Lust is a natural and healthy thing; it doesn't hurt anyone unless it's vulgar and/or consumes your entire life. The thing with humans, though, is that while we may still have our "animalistic" needs, we also have self-control. We should definitely not repress ourselves from masturbation, porn, or sex if the partner wants it, but we have the power to prevent ourselves from sexually vulgar behavior (like teh raep).

It's a bit pathetic really, if lust was such a bad thing why on earth is it an attribute of all "God's" creatures. I mean what separates us from other animals is our ability to act on thought rather than instinct but if we apply that to this rediculous degree, we are no longer human, we're merely drones serving a completely ersatz and nonsensical ideology.
