i recently got a ps2 slim and i wanted to play final fantasy vii. i have a ps1 memory card but it won't let me start the game. it loads the memory card with all the open files, but it won't let me select and empty file. the analog button turns off automatically on the controller but it won't load the game.

Hmm, what memory card brand are you using? I've actually had the same problem with my PSX memory card when I played FFVII on my PS2. I was in the middle of the game, saved it, and a few weeks later, my game file was completely gone. It still lets me save games but it won't load anymore. So I got a new memory card and made sure it's a Sony Playstation brand and not some unknown brand. Hopefully that works...I guess I'll find out eventually. That could be the problem...at least that's what I think it is. If not and others know what's up, I would like to find out as well. xD

Ah damn...then I guess that's not the problem. >.> Then it has to be a compatibility problem. It happens to a lot of people. I believe you have to format the memory or something. It is also known that some Sony memory cards will not work with the newer PS2s for some reason. Not much you can do about that, really. =/

hmm mine work with my slimline :S
dunno
umm i would say its compatibility also BUT it could jsut be that the memory card ( if its from the very original psxs ie the first lot of them) that could be the problem that its outdated and doesnt work very well anymore
